As a spin-off from the "Journalistic Integrity" thread on the main GP forum:

You guys DO listen to the CDs you review at least once all the way through, don't you?

Naturally, you don't have time to listen to 'em a dozen times and let it percolate....

I sometimes buy CDs based on Editor Boy's recommendations (or I did when I could find GP regularly).

Sometimes I back the wrong horse, but I can always hear what EB was getting at. Methinks he listens to them.

Hey, KFIII -- I guess I owe you a beer or two!

Eric -- I can't speak for every editor, but I listen to the CDs I review (or pick as one of my SPINS) off and on throughout the three weeks between deadline cycles.

I mostly listen in my office (admittedly, as I'm working) and in my car on the way home. When I sit down to write, I have the CD running so I can refer to specific elements, or simply to keep the vibe of the album barking at me for inspiration.

I would have a very stern talk with any GP editor who pulled a MAXIM. We are trusted to find interesting guitar tracks for our readers to check out, and we can't do that without actually seeking out and evaluating the sounds. And even if we wanted to "slide" a little and spew pure jive/inaccuracies/inane banter, GP readers are way too savvy to swallow such gunk. You want depth -- not word counts and clever sentences that say nothing about an artist's approach to guitar.

Cheers,
Mike

I ALWAYS listen to a CD I review. Multiple times in fact.

OK, I got the idea. I never thought you guys were Maxim-style bums - it was just a spinoff from the thread!

PS - that's one reason I have never written CD reviews - I rarely listen to a particular CD more than once before moving on to something else, and often it's only bits and pieces - unless I'm trying to learn something. And the artist who made the recording surely deserves better than that for the hard work they put in!

How do I submit my CD to be reviewed? I would love to send a copy to Guitar Player Magazine.

Thanks for the mention in the Readers Polls. Not sure how all that came to be but it was a nice surprise.
