I am new to this forum. I have just built a room to house my vintage guitar collection and play room in the back of my detached garage.
I am gettting into recording, particularly some songs that I have written. I want to maximize my results. After reading Mr Winer's lengthy article on room acoustics, I found this site.
My first question would be a bout the room. I have insulated drywall walls, covered with LP's leaning against. Over these, 40+ acoustic guitars on the opposite half of a 2:1 rectangular room, from my studio, which resides in an alcove.

Will the LP's break up the reflections?
Will the guitar resonances adversely effect the sound?
What should I be thinking of to optimize my room?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

I see this sort of thing all the time, just for display and convenience purposes. I put a handful of these hangers on the wall in my studio. My luthier had a fit. Check with your local guitar guru to see if there is a long term bad effect to your instruments before you do this.

And be sure to keep the room humidified and at a constant temp, or you certainly will have some very b ad and expensive problems with your instruments.

Just in terms of acoustics, putting the monitors in a non-bisymetrical arragement is not going to help your mixes.

Not really.

Possibly, but I have guitars and a cello in my studio with no problem. Of course, I have far fewer than you!

All the usual stuff as outlined in my FAQ. Here's the short version -

All rooms need:

* Broadband (not tuned) bass traps straddling as many corners as you can manage, including the wall-ceiling corners. More bass traps on the rear wall behind helps even further. You simply cannot have too much bass trapping. Real bass trapping, that is - thin foam and thin fiberglass don't work to a low enough frequency.

* Mid/high frequency absorption at the first reflection points on the side walls and ceiling.

* Some additional amount of mid/high absorption and/or diffusion on any large areas of bare parallel surfaces, such as opposing walls or the ceiling if the floor is reflective. Diffusion on the rear wall behind you is also useful in larger rooms.
