Anyone here ever see Julie Slick play bass with Adrian Belew? Unbelievable. She's like Entwistle meets Jack Bruce. I caught her Saturday night in San Francisco with the Belew Power Trio at Slim's at the Guitar Player Magazine/Parker Guitar event. She was playing a Glaub custom and stole my heart.

We must be in the era of the Uber-Chick bassplayer -- and I mean that with genuine admiration.

You hear these incredible young talents like this one and Tal Wilkenfeld, and they are truly astounding.

Not all the time and she can really slap. She killed Elephant Talk. I turned around looking for Tony Levin behind her but nope, it was this gorgeous curly haired chick who looks around fifteen years old.

She also plays in her bare feet.

This is what I witnessed the other night. Though you really have to see Julie Slick (and that's her brother Eric on drums) with Adrian live to appreciate just how good she is:

I saw a young gal playing on PBS last fall with Jeff Beck. She looked alot like Slick and might have been her. They were playing sort of a jazz/rock tune, and when she soloed she showed Beck a thing or two.
