Ethan reunited me here from Home Theater Shack (I joined here a long time ago but haven't been around much).

I read your article on the Audyssey (the Stereophile critique) and it got me interested in room EQ, but not for $2k+. I have experience in the Behringer products (FBD 1120 and 1124 and the ECM8000 mic), so I was interested in the UltraCurve and UltraDrive systems for a more DIY replacement of the Audyssey. However, I'm not married to that idea, so please, any help is appreciated.

The reason the DCX is on there is I'm also interested in DIY speakers, possibly bi/tri amping them.

Any other products I should consider? Anything to watch out for?

Thanks,
Anthony

Anthony,

As you know I'm not keen on any room EQ, but I don't object to using it in the lowest octave or so, maybe up to 50 or even 60 Hz, where bass traps are less effective. But I'd never use EQ above the low bass range.

As for products, any modern fully parametric EQ should do a fine job. But the only way to set it properly is to measure at high resolution using something like the ETF and R+D software.
