Hello,
I am finishing my windowless concrete block basement - sectioning off 2 rooms to serve as a live tracking room and control room.
I live in the suburbs, and need to be conscious of sound leakage to keep happy neighbors.
My intent is to build these rooms against 3 already existing concrete block exterior foundation walls. I will be making a 4th wall to enclose the room - then putting a dividing wall up down the center of the room to create the 2 smaller live/control rooms.
My question is: From a soundproofing point of view - would it be more cost effective & quiet to use concrete block to divide the rooms - or traditional stud framing w/ soundproofing sheetrock, such as QuietRock. Concrete block is not cheap...but neither is QuietRock, or similar products.
I plan on using Quietrock and appropriate insulation on the ceilings regardless of what material the walls are made of.
Obviously, I will do a full acoustic treatment on the interior walls. But from a soundproofing point of view - does anybody have any opinions about the options for diving up the rooms.
Thanks, Angelo
