Years ago out of frustration with my existing too-small control room, I decided to move all my gear into what had been up until then my live room which was quite a bit larger. I had two days to complete the move before starting a new project, so I resorted to a lot of "guerrilla" techniques to try to control the sound in the room as easily and quickly as possible. My idea was to later create better and more permanent solutions for room treatment, but as things usually go with me, I never got around to it.

What I did for the front corners of the room was based upon an idea I ran across on another site somewhere:

The "construction" is basically four stacked rolls of regular R-13 building insulation (still in plastic). The beautiful and oh-so-chic harvest gold gobo that spans the corner in front of the rolls is made of what I believe to be 2" 703. There is a panel of fabric-covered 1" 705 (I think, see this post) that is perched precariously on top, mainly to hide the top roll of insulation from view.

Aside from the decidedly unprofessional look, it has actually seemed to work fairly well. I never had any huge problems with low end dips and peaks in the room, at least at the mix position (observing the 38% rule), and whatever I did have I guess over time I have learned to compensate for. I am just wondering if anyone has done a similar thing, or if Ethan or anyone else would have an opinion about this.

Here is a frequency plot measured at the mix position:

At some point I would like to make something more attractive and permanent, and there are lots of great ideas on this forum for doing that. I guess I am just curious as to how my old "quick and dirty" traps would compare sonically to the proven and more permanent solutions that I might install, be they a purchased commercial product or a DIY project.

Update: I found in the FAQ that Ethan recommends this kind of treatment....

Edit Reason: added frequency plot
