I have about thirty or so premade 1" panels that appear to be 705 (or some equivalent thereof). They were given to me and as best I recall they are an Armstrong product. They are covered in a nice acoustic fabric that appears to be Guilford or something similar. Maybe someone is familiar with these panels and can educate me better:

I also have quite a bit of unfaced 703 in 1", 2", and 4" thicknesses. I need to add more traps to my room, and I was wondering how it would be to use the premade 705 panels as a "face" for the traps, and stack panels of the unfaced 703 behind them to build up the thickness of the trap to 4" or 6", depending upon the installation location in the room.

I would have to come up with a good way to cover the exposed sides of the traps, as well as devise some way to attach wires, etc, to hang them. An obvious method would be to build a frame out of wood, but it would be nice if I could come up with another way that would not block absorption from the sides of the panel. I am wide open to and would appreciate any opinions and suggestions.

I have been a long-time "lurker" in this forum and I must say it is marvelous how much information is made available here by Ethan, the GIK folks, and other professionals in the industry. For this I offer my deepest gratitude...

nothing wrong w/ stacking sheets of fiberglass/min. wool. I'm not sure that the sides would make a HUGE difference. You could of course get one of those big circular drill bits (like 2") and drill vents all the sides.
