Hi folks. Think I need some help. Based on Ethan's DIY section, I've made 5 HF panels using 4'x 2'x 30mm thick rockwool. These have been screwed to same size hardboard panels. I chose not to use a surrounding wood frame to keep panels as light as possible, and to maximise absorption area. My idea is to create a vocal booth extending out from the mid point of the longest side of a room 6'x 7'x 8'ht.I've just tried suspending them from the ceiling [8'High] so creating a recording zone 2'x 4'x 6'high. The booth only begins around waist high. The higher frequencies seem to have been dealt with successfully. The problem now is, that bass frequencies have now been introduced. I'd very much appreciate any help. Cheers!

I guess that if the 38% rule for listening position is true, this may apply for microphone placement too, right?
IMO, I wouldn't make a closed booth as I think I understood you are making. I'd make some big "biombos" (is that how you call them?) so you can move them around freely and stack them flat against a wall when not in use.
About the bass frequencies, welcome to the club! Bass traps! Loads!

Hi,bigearededdie. THanks for replying. Must admit at this point to being a newbie. Please explain what "biombos" are. And could it be that I've introduced unwanted bass frequencies [they didn't seem to be there hitherto] by dodgey distribution of said panels? Should they i.e. be hung on walls of the room? Cheers!

I think a bit of trial and error is called for here! I think the close proximity of these panels when in situ was partly the reason for the sudden dramatic increase in bass frequencies. I also think the other contributing factor was the presence of the hardboard backing. I'm now going to remove the hardboard, place the panels in the same positions, and hear if there's any audible difference. Cheers!

Hi, folks! Well, I won't be reintroducing the hardboard, and the panels can stay in close proximity as I'm now pretty happy with the sound.
Cheers!
