My first post!
I have owned a few sigs: Les Pauls, EC Strat, Peavey Wolfgang.
However, I'd have to say the coolest is :
Jimmie Vaughan// Fender Jimmie Vaughan Tex-Mex Strat
V-neck (like the Clapton), American Vintage bridge and tuners, Tex-Mex pickups. Made in Mexico and can be had for $600 bones or so. Really an awesome Strat!!!!

THAT`S the guy I was trying to remember-Gil Paris. My brother saw him in a club, they got to talking after the show and Gil is apparently a really cool guy, invited my brother to jam sometime and all. My brother has been too intimidated to take him up on the offer.

If the rating is for "coolest" signature model, then I'll agree with the EB Nigel Tufnel guitar.
The OLP Tony Levin bass would be a close runner up. Peach? With Poppa Bear's silhouette on the headstock? Cool!
Can't forget to pitch the Alembic Spider series, based on John Entwistle's Explorer-shaped basses. Great inlays and spider webs.
If you're going for more of a "favorite", then I'd lean more towards the Ernie Ball Music Man Steve Morse model. As close to is actual frankentele with out being made of Fender parts; if only they could make you play like him.
I also have to say that the Noel Redding signature Fender Jazz was wonderful to play; way better (IMHO) than the Fender Jaco signature.
Surprised no one has mentioned the Brian May Red Special; but since so many builders have put out runs of it (Burns, guild, Star, etc) I guess it would be hard to pick wich one should get the honor.

The limited run Pete Townshend Les Paul Deluxe, with the DeMarzio and Pete's elaborate pu switching is a really cool, and totally unique signature guitar.
This guitar has the typical rhythm and lead mini humbuckers that most Deluxes have. But, it's also got a DeMarzio humbucker thrown inbetween the minihumbuckers. It's got three volume knobs, and one master tone knob, the typical three way pu switch, and two toggle switches.....one coil taps the DeMarzio, the other toggle puts the DeMarzio out of phase.
I also LOVE the strap locking mechanism on this guitar. Pete's guitar tech came up with it.

While I'm at it....
The Pete T SG Sig. is an exact copy of the guitar Pete played at Woodstock. Not innovative. Not particularly unique. It's sure head heavy, and unbalanced.
It also is beautiful, and rips with the best of them.
They made 250 of them.

I really don't see the need for owning a "signature" guitar personally. It's not like it's gonna magically make you as good as whoever's signature is on it....THAT being said, I like the "Ace Frehley" LP and especially dig the "Jimmy Page" Black beauty!!! LOL!!!!

While I don't disagree with your statement Zan6000, because I have no interest in buying anything just because Oprah thinks it's the greatest, but the thing I've noticed about most "signature" guitars is that they simple feel good in my hands. I have a Peavey Wolfgang and Eddie is one of my favorite guitarists, but I didn't buy it because I like Eddie, I bought it because it is one fine playing axe, and good-looking too. Vai's Ibanez Jem and Nuno Bettencourt's Washburn N4 are two others that I've played and really liked. IMHO, these guys just know how a guitar should feel. Not that the rest of us don't, but the average Joe/Jane just doesn't have the luxury of a manufacturer wanting to custom build a guitar to his/her personal specs.

Those are two fine looking Gibby's there, Don! I'm assuming they are part of your collection, as I get the vague impression that you may be a bit of a Who fan ;).

My vote would be the Robben Ford Model of the Fender Esprit. It's so NOT typical of a Fender Guitar.

Funny story about that guitar: I was backstage after a Pete Townshend concert in La Jolla, CA where a guy came up to Pete and asked him if he would sign his Gibson PT model SG, serial number 00001 and if he would make it out to his son, named "Townshend". Pete took a beat and smiled, said something like "that's very unhealthy" and signed the guitar. He turned back to my friend and I and said that found "superfans" like that truly unsettling.

Gotta second (third?) the Wolfgang. I didn't buy it for the "signature" factor either - it was actually kind of an accident how I came across 'em. I saw one at a local shop and just picked it up to kill some time - I fell in love almost immediately. I'm 6'3" and not a small person but there's just something super comfortable about the way the neck fits in my hands...

Hmmm. Best one I've ever played would have to be a JEM- they've been around my whole life. I'd also say the Malmsteen Strat's pretty good if you like scalloped fretboards but hate scalloping them. (Heh heh.) Gotta (fourth?) the Wolfgang too... I'm 6'8 and the thing looks like a ukelele on me but MAN.... Paul Gilbert's signature Ibanez is cool too. Plays really well though I can't say I dig the fake f-holes (or the fact that it doesn't come with a cordless drill and a pick bit.)

My Vote for the Adrian Beleu model. Certainly cool looking with tons of features, i.e. piezo pickup, stereo output, etc.

This was a hot guitar only available for a while in the early 90s. Can't say i was ever a fan of Winger but it was a really great instrument.

Fender Jagstang/Kurt Cobain
My most favorite guitar. It isn't a "real" signature series I guess because it doesn't bare his name, but it was made for him, and to his specs, so it qualifies.
