Same idea as the last poll- nominate your favorites for COOLEST ARTIST SIGNATURE GUITAR MODEL OF ALL-TIME!!! Format is Artist name // Name of model. For example: Eric Clapton // Fender Custom Shop Eric Clapton Tribute Series BLACKIE Stratocaster

Yeah... the Gibson Les Paul is obviously the hands down winner no matter what you think of it. But I think it deserves to be handed the title of King Of The Mountain overseeing the contest between various Fender Sig models, Gibson Sig models both LP variants and otherwise, and those of so many other manufacturers.

I think it's cool there are so many cool sig models, frankly.

I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you, Empty, regarding the playability issue. There are many sig models known for their quality and playability, though most people that buy them do so for something other than those attributes.

(BTW - Hope you're ok! How close did the tornadoes come to you. I heard them say there were some that hit in Kenosha County, WI, but that was as specific as they got.)

For me, other than the previously stated obvious king, I really liked the Kramer Ferrington electric that sported a hex p'up, panpots aboard the guitar for each string and an optional 6 channel, onboard distortion. Wish I owned one!

I also like the looks and sound of the Ernie Ball/Music Man Alvin Lee Signature model that's been around a long time.

I'd like to try a Carvin Allan Holdsworth Fatboy. Looks really interesting.

Oddly enough, as much as I prefer to play acoustics, none of the signature models mean much to me. The only one that even comes to mind as anything really special is Doyle Dykes signature Rose by Taylor Guitars.

yea i wasnt even thinking about the les paul. ive never played the Clapton strat but have only heard good things, and i dont hear much about any other sigs, except obviously the les paul. (kinda wierd theres and sig. les pauls then??)

no tornadoes by me. Thanks for the thought though. I didnt even think it was very windy, but like you said i think everything was mostly north.

i would have to say the Les Paul.
but a mention of the Eddie VH frankenstrat should be made because of the intense work Fender must have gone to recreate a unique one of a kind instrument that totally rewrote the book in a the hands of a young genius rocker.

I was beat to this already, but I've just gotta say... Les Paul, Gibson... Les Paul... you know the one... 'specially a good '59 style specimen, original, RI, or whatsoever it be.

Serious Honorable Mention to George Benson//Ibanez George Benson series...

Note that both of these were "Signature Models" made from the ground-up, not existing models that were tweaked to the endorsing artist's likes; most "signature-models" fall in that latter, less signifigant categorie.

Gibson Les Paul, there is no other serious contender for number 1.

Number 2 we could discuss at length I'm sure.

#1 Gibson Les Paul......although there is controvercy regarding just how much of the guitar's design is truely attributable to Les. It is far and away the most commonly used "signature" guitar that I can think of, and with good reason.

#2 Fender Clapton Signature Strat....may pro Strat players seem to use this model...not just Eric!!

This model is said to be the only Gibson guitar that Les had total control over the design.

Steve Vai//Ibanez Universe 7 string

Might as well plug a 7 string, because I know nearly no one else will. ;\) (Except for maybe Mick Neil and Xplorer...)

Seriously, it's a great guitar, whether you like 7's or not. It also once came in a number of finishes (other than jet black w/ pyramid 777 inlay on the body and mirror pickguard), including white, neon green, and a swirly rainbow sort of thing. Steve even had one burnt at one point, just for the hell of it.

I'd like to throw in a vote for a very special acoustic guitar. It's the Martin "000C Steve Miller" Signature model. It was a limited run of 383 guitars (I think). It has the most lovely quilted mahogany back and sides...I've never seen quilted Mahogany like that before. The face is Engleman spruce. I had the opportunity to play one, and it's playability and tone were stellar. DON'T ASK ME WHY I DIDN'T BUY IT.... \:\(

About a week after I played it, and couldn't get how great it was off of my mind, I called the dealer. Unfortunately, it had been sold in the interveining time!! I've never been able to find another one for sale.

Did you say it, Lee, or was it said by Les or someone high up at Gibson at the time? I have my doubts because Les was clearly given free reign in designing the Les Paul Personal which, by Les' own mouth, integrated a variety of features he always wanted that were incorporated on the Les Paul Personal. Specifically, the low impedance p'ups. (Are your Signature p'ups low impedance?) Given he's still playing this instrument as his main axe says loads about his interest in it. ;\)

I've never played one, couldn't afford it anyway (even if they made a lefty version) but I've seen the man play live twice now and I'm nominating the Johnny A Gibson. He has 3 or 4 in the rack and the dark chocolate brown one is just gorgeous. Sounds good too, especially in his hands!

The Johnny A. Gibbie is indeed a beautiful instrument! I'd like to check that one out myself.

Speaking of Elliott Easton... Here's one I always wanted to get my hands on...

1987-88 Kramer Elliott Easton sig model. The link gave me info I was previously unaware of.. that the prototypes were built by Tom Anderson. Elliott said they defintely outshined the production guitars though. \:\(

I am in total agreeance with everyone that said Les Paul.

But I also nominate the Muddy Waters Signature Telecaster/Fender, but only because I have one! \:D Seriously, tho, I shopped around ALOT for a Tele, and this one had by far the most for the money. It is said to be all American parts, just assembled in Mexico. No matter where it was made or assembled, I love it. I sounds great, feels great, and looks great all in one!

The Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster/Fender is also one damn nice playing and sounding guitar. I have played one several times at GC and if I were shopping in that price range for a Strat, it would be at the top of the list, along with the Jeff Beck Strat, but I haven't played one of those in well over ten years and I know that they have changed quite a bit over the years.

Why the ultimate sig model would have to be the Pete Shelley Stairway Signature LTD for $1399!!!

I'm kiddin of course, but over at Eastwood Guitars they're serious about this model. And your eyes don't deceive, the top half of the body of this ultro cheapo/shoddy Teisco looking contraption is indeed sawed off.

Ah well, I do like a some of the other Eastwood models, this one is apparently for the nostalgic diehard Buzzcocks fans. Both of them.

First of all, the Gibson Les Paul is a cop out. Sure, it is technically a signature guitar. But then again, a Mercedes-Benz is technically a signature car. Come on people, get creative! \:D

Anyway, I vote for the following:

Eric Johnson // Eric Johnson Signature Strat

For reasons mentioned above and because it is one of the few signature models that has mass-market appeal and character (I suspect this is also why 14 people voted for the Les Paul). There are a lot of cool signature models out there but most of them would make me feel like a poser (see Steve Vai). The EJ one certainly does not do that, and besides: Everyone loves a good Strat.

Second Place: John Petrucci // Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci

If that nomination makes it into an actual poll, I'll be highly likely to vote for it!

No I did not say it NEIL, because I don't know, it is said in a collectors book I have, I don't care one way or the other actually, and yes the PU's are Low Z

John Petrucci/Music Man John Petrucci sig-I`ve heard him use the piezo option live, it really offers a tonal alternative. The stereo jacks don`t hurt either. Very unique item.
