I'm the guy who sent the thanks last night & met you at Full Compass in Madison during the Panasonic DA7 thingy.

I am currently working on my first "album" and almost finished tracking songs. Your "workshop" was timely. I will be using Wavelab for mastering and my preliminary effort is 8 songs which I burned to CD for a trial listen in my car. All the songs are guitar, base, drums, etc---one is a quiet ballad with no drums which really sounds LOUDER on the CD even though I normalized them all. If I understood you right last night, you would simply turn it down until it "seems" to be about equal volume? That's it? So far I have used no compression on any of the tracks. Thanks again for the "class". It really WOULD help to be able to view it again somehow---you threw a lot at us pretty fast. I appreciated it though. (Still have my PAIA hot springs reverb)

Yes, I would simply turn it down until it sounded right, in terms of balance with the rest of the album's flow.

As to viewing it again, having registered for the live event, you have access to the archived version for a limited number of streams...I think it's five or so...check the blurb on the front page for where to find the archived version.

Here is the message I get when I try to review the webinar:

"Your access to play this content has expired. This content is unavailable for playback. "

For a while I thought maybe the archive wasn't ready yet as I thought I read somewhere that Craig mentioned he wanted to redo some of the examples; but it seems it should be available.

Anybody else have this issue?

Thanks -
Steve

Another option for you would be to take a look (with Wavelab's analyzer function) at the RMS volume of that track versus the others.

This, BTW, is the #1 reason not to normalize, IMHO - it doesn't account for percussionless pieces (which have much lower peak values)
