i'm not sure if i'm supposed to post this in the main thread about the webinar - but first off this was a great event. i had my doubts about it when it started and yes it was difficult to hear anything in the nr and eq section but the information was top quality and the Q & A period after was superb. so thanks craig. also great that we will be able to watch it again later.

craig: one of my questions you told me to post on the forum was about volume reduction before you put the music in your mastering dynamics plugins. does it help to lower the volume of all the summed tracks significantly before it goes to the plugin, cause if you insert a clipping signal into the compressors/limiters i find that the thing is overloaded from the get-go.

in this scenario i feel it's doing more damage to use the plugin except for the fact that it's helping eliminate clipping. however the downside is now the mix sounds flat. bypass the effect and it's punchy again. how should we approach this?

First of all, I'm glad you liked it! It was really fun to do at this end. After hearing the streamed version, I'd like to re-cut the audio to exaggerate what listeners hear to make it more obvious. I think as long as people understand this is designed to illustrate a principle behind a mastering technique, I don't think they'd mind.

This thread is as good a place to ask questions as any. I think there were a LOT of questions left unanswered when we ran out of time, so here's a chance to ask them. Also, there were some great additions and comments from the participants as well, so more of those are always welcome.

If you have any suggestions on how the start should be handled so people don't have doubts about it, that would be helpful.

I must say that based on the questions this was a very knowledgeable crowd, and those that weren't were sincerely interested in learning. Very cool!
