I record in 24 bit and then mix down the Alesis Masterlink. when I render an image in 24-bit 96khz I keep my levels at a perfect -1bd, just before max. Now here is my problem, when I burn a Redbook 16 bit from that audio image, I Redline on some notes, now I am not hitting any noticable distortion but I don't like the look of the meters. I do realize the dynamic differences between 16 and 24 bit, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I can keep this from happening. I suppose I could mix twice and render a seperate image for 16 bit but that seems to be defeating the purpose.
Thank a ton
Cheers.

No, "-.3" lower than digital "0".
"-.1" might be cutting it just a little too close...

Saw your post on Roger's forum, too. Are you sure you're not dialing in any mods prior to rendering? Are you using the same meters?
If you're looking for the v2.0 software, you can get it here...

I have not had any problems with this version, but do a search on all the forums (fora?) for Masterlink to read others' experiences.
Best regards,
Bob

Hey Bob,
Thanks for the reply, I do have version 2.0
I do apply DSP to the original audio file, as is the idea of the Masterlink. I bring up levels, compress, limit or what have you. Then, as you know you have the option of rendering an image with the DSP applied. Once the Image is rendered, you can no longer apply any gain of any sort. I simply burn a 24 bit CD, and then burn a 16 bit redbook for listening elsewhere. I watch the meters both times and the 24 bit audio file will burn a 16 bit CD at 0db while the actual rendered image is -1db. Even it were possible to add gain to the signal, I am not. I do nothing different except choose which CD type to burn, 24 or 16 redbook. Kinda strange but not a big deal. I keep my levels under control and don't experience any digital distortion though I feel that 1db is cutting it close.
Cheers.
