Hey all. I recently got a laptop with Vista, and my ultralite does not want to work.
The computer detects it fine, all the drivers say it's running, Sonar thinks it's there, but all I get out of it is noise on all channels.
Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone else effectively solved this problem?
I read on some forums that MOTU likes TI chipsets for their firewire connection, so I went out and bought one, but it doesn't help any.
I'm wondering if I'm going to need to just get a new interface.

Have you downloaded the latest vista drivers from the manufacturer's website?

Often the case with new OS or software, the "latest and greatest" rarely is. I keep several small partitions on my system for various OS', allowing me to beta the "latest greatest" while still maintaining a working system. Now I confess I am on a Mac, but I believe the same can be done on a PC. Plus the smaller partitions make the OS more efficient.

Because OS X worked great with everything right out of the box. With no problems between the the different versions.
Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Tiger & Leopard.
How soon we forget.

I was just being a smartazz. You are talking to a person that only wanted to buy an iPod and before I could use it I:
1) had to upgrade the software from Jaguar to Tiger for the 5th Gen features 2) Upgrade DP4 to DP5 becasue DP4.6 didn't work with Tiger 3) Upgrade ram becasue Tiger/DP5 needed more than 512 MB.
All in, it was almost a $1000 proposition over a darn MP3 player, so I know that "it ain't easy."
But I am still free of of Microsoft's tyranny

Figured I'd update this.
After re-installing the MOTU a bunch of times with various settings changed, I got it sort of functional. It works, and then at seemingly random times, it sends noise out on all channels for a few seconds, occasionally getting "stuck" and needing to be turned off and on.
All in all, very frustrating. Having used and really liked MOTUs before (with OS X systems), I want this to work, but it looks like I'm going to have to wait until (hopefully) better drivers come out. So, I've got it running with my desktop (XP) and will wait until new drivers come out to try it again with the laptop.

Time to "upgrade" the laptop to XP.

Good luck with this. When it was time to do serious music on a computer, going to Apple was a no-brainer, but I am interested to see what happens with the PC because I also want to be able to work on both platforms eventually.

Final update, if anyone cares. I got a PreSonus Firestudio Project, and so far it's worked flawlessly with my Vista Laptop and Sonar. They had it in stock at the music store here in town and let me buy it with a promise of a cash refund if I couldn't get it working within a week. Within 15 minutes of having it out of the box I was making sample recordings.

Hey Blu,
Glad you got something that works. Unfortunately all things virtual don't play nice together. Finding two that do is a good thing. I'm happy with XP(for all things non-music), and won't be moving to Vista. Too many rumors about it's demise. Have fun.
Best, Paul

I'm considering trading dictators, but the IKEA-like one is sooo expensive. It would sure look good in my living room, though...

anybody that thinks that a jump to Apple is a jump towards freedom just hasn't ever paid ANY attention to how Apple does business.
