A friend has asked me to advice on the purchase of a music PC. I seem to remember having read that certain firewire controller chipsets are no good for real-time audio applications. Can anybody tell me which ones these might be, and which are the ones to get?
Thank you.

The chipset in FW hdd's is important, you want an Oxford 911 or 922.

Also, take a look at the TI chipset.. kind of a benchmark for a while now http://www.xpcgear.com/fire800pci5.html .

Here's the poop http://focus.ti.com/lit/ml/sllt199/sllt199.pdf .
