Artist cover: Needs to have a major contemporary jazz artist - Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Bill Frisell. Even a roundtable about doing serious music in a context where most consumers believe Kenny G is "jazz".
Lessons cover: Rut busters and avant-garde. Can we please shelve the blues box and harmonic/melodic minor scales? Ideas for moving beyond patterns.
Gear cover: Versatile vs. Dedicated. Do "all in one" pieces like a Pod or modeling software hold up to boutique gear? What is the minimum setup to cover a top-40 gig that goes from J. Lo to ZZ Top to Sinatra?

Cover story of a non-profit I support. The Road Recovery Foundation. They are having a Supergroup show that includes SLASH, Tom Morello, Jerry Cantrell, Wayne Kramer (MC5)
Im so psyched for this show, i cAN'T WAIT TO GET TIX! im tryin to tell everyone because I still cant believe it!
I Can't see any reason not to at least have a story about it in guitar player.
Seriously!! LOOKS WHOS PLAYING!!!
I put the event page as my 'homepage' in my profile.

I second the notion of having a well-known jazz artist on the cover, or some other genius people should know about. I still remember "who is Eric Johnson and why is he on our cover?" from 1986, which doubtless helped Eric's career a great deal.
It'd be great to see a classical virtuoso on the cover, too. But right now classical guitar is not as popular as in the '70s when Christopher Parkening was a big star.
And there are great fingerstylists such as Chris Proctor who deserve the recognition.
Of course, the editors have to consider newstand sales also.

Not in these circles, but in the scary places frequented by those pesky non-musicians.

What about Paul Galbraith? I think the instrument would interest people.

Put James Blackshaw on the cover.. a brilliant acoustic 12-string player with a very unique style!
OK, put Roger McGuinn on the cover and do an issue on the 12 string and other "alternative guitars". There is a lady named Janet Marlow who plays a 10 string, and a classical guy, Paul somebody, who plays an 8-string on a cello peg! And there are many other "alternative instruments". You might even want to do a section on electric sitarists!
Yes, I'm dreaming, but it WOULD be an alternative to yet another article on Clapton or Hendrix (yes I like them, too!).

Lionel Loueke would be something to see. Great story to tell, really bringing it all together now.

There's this guitar I saw on the Net once that surely would win the cake! I wish I could find it (without dedicating a whole week to it!).
I do remember a guy writing in GP calling himself "Teisco Del Rey" who'd profile butt-ugly guitars every month! Some of which were beautiful in their own wierd way, but not something I'd want to own. Of course, Danelectro made some cool stuff.....
