No, I'm not talking about the song by Lieber and Stoller which was recorded by the Coasters.
The general consensus seems to be that the search function does not work well.
Here's how I search: Go to Google Advanced Search Type whatever you want in the "find" boxes. AND Type: http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php in the box to the right of "Domain"
I've seen other websites that use a Google search engine for searches rather than developing their own search engine.

The tool I placed in the Help Desk Forum basically does what you described in your first post. It searches Google for provided keywords matching the forums.musicplayer.com domain canonical.
The results, while helpful, are less than satisfactory. I'm working with the MP folks to procure a new server, and hopefully provide a robust forum search feature.
