Ernie (if I can be so informal),
I am assuming this is where I come to make a simple (yet important) request.
I have been a loyal KEYBOARD reader since my first days of laying hands on my high school’s ARP QUADRA, TEAC 4-track and Tascam mixing board. It was a pivotal time in my music career and the likes of Larry Dunn (EW&F) and Tony Banks (Genesis) helped form my appreciation for all the things found within the pages of this wonderful magazine.
Fast forward a decade or two (and then some). My musical path has taken me over the hills and through the woods, but never too far from the R&B and Gospel part of the musical forest. I am always excited to read about the pioneers and leaders in the industry regardless of genre, but I always seem to take exceptional notice when there are people whose body of work I know beyond just what I’ve read or possibly have heard in my travels over the years.
Of everything this magazine has covered over the years, these two genre’s, but particularly Gospel music, has received short shrift and has severely lacked in coverage and exploration (particularly the technical and creative aspects). Yes, I’ve seen the occasional brief article, but NEVER the type of care and depth of reporting other genres enjoy. From Fred Hammond to Kirk Franklin to Yolanda Adams, the producers and musicians behind them work with and use the same technology we laude and celebrate. Upon closer inspection, you will surely find keyboard rigs, skills, experience, techniques and even technical and production insight that rival any other modern genre.
As you and the staff move to close out a fantastic 2007, I hope in the future you will take more time and effort to look beyond the genre’s you enjoy and are familiar with to include the work of those in other genre’s that many of your readers are actively working in.
After all, there is more to music than Rock, Prog, Electronica and Jazz...
Thanks for giving us the space to talk as freely and deeply (or is it passionately) as we do around here.
Regards, Jason (aka Musicworkz)

Steve,
WOW! I won't claim to know the timing or what/how long it takes to plan an issue, but thank you for putting Bernie Worrell on this month's Keyboard. Any keyboard player claiming to know R&B should know who this progenitor is.
Between Bernie and Omar Hakim on Electronic Musician this month, I think y'all made music magazine history.

Was really happy to see Bernie also.
Anyone know the name of the Burning Spear cd he played on?
