This is as good a reason to start the new NBA thread as any...

Garnett traded to Celtics

With Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, I'm thinking they may actually win a few games...

KG, Pierce and Ray Allen make the Celtics a SERIOUS contender in the East. Too bad that between Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge, they'll probably find a way to screw it up.

With Garnett's exit from Minny, Kobe is now the longest-tenured NBA player on a single team, with 11 years as a Laker. I am more and more convinved that Dr. Buss will do nothing to bring in a premier player to join with Kobe, and that in 2008 you'll see him in a Bulls uniform.

It'll be nice having Derek Fisher back as a Laker this year, in any case.

That'd make no sense for the Bulls. They have a great young team which they'd have to decimate to get Kobe.

Not worth it, IMO...

Good move, not a championship team however, but a certified 5th seed for sure!

The Celtics should AT LEAST be watchable this year, with three superstars. You know, before the Jordan/Pippen Bulls ONE superstar was considered essential for a chance at the championship. The Bulls started the two superstar theory. NOW it's THREE superstars to give a team a chance. Where does that leave the Lakers? Kobe can't coexist with other stars, can he?

I tend to agree. If Kobe himself hadn't said it, I wouldn't have said it.

You have seen these, right?

And for the NON photoshop crowd, having NBA superstar Kevin Garnett in Boston seems to have benefits for Doc Rivers even before the season begins!

The sport's still good, but I'm not so sure about the NBA.

Between corrupt officiating and unfair rule enforcement, the league may well have robbed the Suns of a championship last year.

I don't know how invested I'm going to get in the season ahead, but

GO SUNS!!!

Best,

Geoff

This year, rest assured, the finals will be worth watching. Garnett, Pierce, and Allen are going to demolish the East, and whoever shows up in the West will be facing a strong combination of both offense and defense.

Can the C's win a title with this lineup? Doubt it. They're not deep enough to beat teams like Pheonix or San Antonio, especially considering they have no true center, but they'll put on a hell of a show!

Do your search using quotes, e.g. "nba 2007" and for the search term always use "older than 1 day" rather than "newer than XX".

Using these techniques, I was able to find it.

I watch some games here and there - I'll frequently tune into the 4th quarter of the Lakers game to see if someone's kicking their asses - but my interest in basketball doesn't really kick in until after football's over/the NBA all star break.

I'm manic about the playoffs, though - I love playoff hoops.

I find myself watching less and less pro basketball each year. I find it difficult to watch. If I want to watch basketball, I find myself watching a college game over a pro one most of the time. I also prefer to watch Hockey over the NBA and would watch it more if it was televised more. During football season basketball doesn't exist for me.

I start getting excited about basketball maybe a month before the playoffs. And I love watching the playoffs.

Basketball season is too long. Too long for the players for sure, probably too long for the fans as well.

Indeed, even as excited as I am about the Celtics for the first time in a decade, I'm not excited enough to pay attention this early in the season - too much football to watch.

I'm excited about the possibilities of the Celtics, but...I don't know if this sounds bizarre or petty, but Boston fans can be a little obnoxious about the success of the Red Sox, Celtics, and the Patriots, and it's just a bit much. I'm happy that Garnett and Pierce are playing on a winner, though. They deserve it.

No, I'm sure you're not. I'm probably being bizarre or petty. But anyway, ultimately, the Celtics have had many poor seasons, and so seeing them succeed is ultimately really great. And I've been a KG fan for years, so I am really happy for him. I think the Celtics have a really good chance of going to the finals, from this looks of things so far (it's still early, so who knows what the heck will happen). Whether they'd stand up to the Spurs or Suns or whoever makes it that far, I don't know.
