I am looking for an inexpensive hypercardiod condenser mic. Any recommendations?

What do you intend to do with it? What do you define as "inexpensive"? Lots of details to be discovered before anyone can answer that question accurately.

I am outfitting a small listening room, capacity 80. Budget, very small. inexpensive probably means less than $300. They present all acoustic music, a large dose of it singer/songwriters and world music. Alex DeGrassi is among the many who hang out at this room.

In my studio, i have 4 KM150s. They are great for isolating guitar when there are multiple players in the room. But the are not inexpensive. I do not expect to match their performance for $300 (anymore than I would expect to match my KM54s, which are cardioid, with them- each has its place). I would like to get them one or two "decent" misc for their critical apps (mostly acoustic guitar). They currently have a C1000, which i find overly brittle. Now, their sound system (a home brew affair) is wierd in the high end, some boost from the mic would be helpful, but the C1000, which is bright, puts that boost in the wrong plce for this room.

$130 gets you a pair of Samson CO2's with shockmounts, the most amazing under $500 condensor you'll ever hear. Yes that's right a pair. Don't let the price fool you, listen with your ears not your wallet. I've used them in orchestras on strings live as well as acoustic guitar, overheads for drums and perc, and on piano with great success in all cases. They are my go to mic for violins and violas over what was SM81's.

Nice tight pattern, although not hyper, will suit your needs superbly. Wonderful smooth highs, not at all brittle, warm mids, very accurate lows without hype.

You'll love them, and if you don't I'll buy them from you.
