Don't laugh, but my band that just broke up last month has agreed to play a gig in September.

We've done this Labor Day gig every year for five consecutive years. It's really fun; they pay well, it's outdoors, and they feed us. My ex-singer ran into the folks organizing it, and they begged him to have us play again. So, he called the bass player, checked with me and the drummer, and we're all cool with doing the gig.

So, despite the fact that I'm bandless, I do have gigs lined up. \:D

Pretty silly. But the issues that plagued the band still are there. I'm going to let the bassist and singer work out the set list. If they can play nice together, I'll play whatever they manage to work out in their bilateral discussion. \:\)

The soap opera continues. Despite the fact that we're not in a band anymore and have only one final gig booked, my singer and bassist have still been unable to get their stuff in line, even for one lousy show.

It's reaffirming the fact that ending this band was the right thing to do. My message to them is that I plan on showing up and playing whatever they work out. Seems like the best bet at this stage.

As they always say, "You should let them know that you are there for them!" ;\)

Yeah. I said, literally, "Just make the list yourselves, and I'll show up and play whatever's on the list."

In other words, I am disengaging myself from their drama. I have many other things to do in my life at the moment, musically and otherwise, that have more precedence than fighting over whether we play "Communication Breakdown" or not at a street fair. \:D

And... the reunion is OFF! \:D

After all that drama, apparently there's a complainer in the neighborhood who didn't like the live music, and complained to the city last year. That caused the organizers to have to either lose the band, or lose the ability to block the streets for their annual shindig.

I say "apparently" because that's the report I got from my (former) singer, who was once again getting freaked out about the set list immediately before the cancellation happened.

It's all for the best, I tell ya. When it's time to move on, there's no point in lingering around. And back to work I go on my solo material (not that I stopped). ;\)

It still seems a shame that an annual event (which comes as no surprise to anyone) would have that one person that can change the course of history because they don't like the noise! The town I patrolled had 3 music festivals a year, and we got SO many complaints, we just monitored the volume in spl's (from the sound booth and the middle of the crowd, as well as farther away), and adjusted as necessary. 2 of the festivals have the entire business area of Main Street blocked off for a huge community party. And, people complain. But, the City Council, to their credit, is able to forego stopping everything for a few nay-sayers. You can never please everyone, and if only a few people have a problem with the noise level, and so many more attend and have a good time (not to mention the extra revenue to the city), then what's the problem?! Isn't that what vacation time is for? These festivals happen every year, the dates are posted in advance - if you don't want to hear it, take a vacation! Go somewhere else for the 2-3 days of the festivals, and leave everyone else to enjoy the music, for crying out loud! (Can you tell I hate snivellers?)
