Hey all, I’m Calmic that Fu Xing mentioned above. I met Fu Xing sometime ago in a music shop in Shanghai. I told him about the EQ forum recently and he’s been begging me to help his English so he could post.
He worked extremely hard in high school to be able to go to university for Audio Production. Getting into a university of your choice in China is akin to getting in to MIT or Stanford. Most people his age do not have jobs but he does – so he could buy a fender squire guitar and bass, and a few months ago he saved up for some decent Maudio speakers and interface. His Protools Le is (cough cough) a pirate version. I gave him some extra sheets of Roxul I had to put around his room and he’s eagerly awaiting his start at university.
At nineteen he is a very gifted musician, playing a traditional Chinese instrument called the Erhu for almost 12 years. He started playing guitar a few years ago and can really fly. You should hear him play “yours is no disgrace” by Yes on his guitar! He loves the Beatles, Zeppelin, Radiohead and even Mars Volta!!
I just want to point out that most of us in our domestic countries have it easy, and we sometimes take our lifestyle for granted. Even the poorest kids in my home country of Canada are relatively wealthy in comparison to the kids here in China.
For someone like Fu Xing to accomplish what he has, at his age, deserved my attention? I helped him out by giving him some orchestral projects and some 30 sec commercial spots to mix and he did a pretty good job with them, but he really wants to sink his teeth in to a rock mix.
If there is anybody who can direct him to or give him some unmixed music, it would mean the world to him.
Calmic (hi Fu Xing)
