I did a gig last weekend for six straight hours without pay.
Why?
My drummer's 40th birthday party. It was really pretty fun: he had nearly every guy who'd ever been in a band with him onstage at various points. Unfortunately for me, I was nearly ALL of his bands that whole time, and played all but one song during the entire gig. PLUS, he asked me to open for the main event, since it was at a venue that served food and we couldn't play the loud rock and roll until later.
So, I did about 40 songs. My fingers looked like they'd been through a wood chipper the bnext morning. Ah, music.

But, for all the grumbling, you wouldn't trade it for anything, would you? Actually, I would have been quite sore myself, and probably wouldn't be able to play for a week until my hands and arms recovered. But, again, it's too much fun to say "no".
