I think one of the greatest concepts of the internet is to get "pre filtered" ideas from others. True, because of home studios, we have one zillion people putting out music now. It USED to be the record companies that did the pre-filtering. Theoretically, there IS great, exceptional music out there, maybe better than ever. The music *I* like isn't found on major labels nowadays.

So - pre-filter all the thousands of things you heard and tell us some of the top things we might like. I'll start with two -

Eleni Mandell - a great traditional singer/songwriter. She's doing well around the world, and getting more popular with each record. Some of her songs ARE as good as it gets.

Rasputina - Used to be signed to Sony, which is unusual, as the band concept is always "cellos and a drummer only". Used to be three cellos (played through Marshall-type amps). The writing is all over the place, from very funny to very sad. Worth a listen...

Here are my two newest fave artists:

Amy Cook - an Austin-based singer/songwriter who has placed many of her multi-textured, Americana-flavored songs in TV shows and movies. Her newest record, "The Sky Observer's Guide", is a gem, following her remarkable debut, "The Bunkhouse Recordings". Also featured in next month's issue of Elle Magazine. http://www.myspace.com/amycookmusic

Jim Boggia - Philly's pop music wunderkind. It don't get much better than this, with his many pop influences waving brightly from his sleeves.

Point One- A band local to Seattle that will just be wrapping up their first national tour with VAST in a couple of days. This band is based firmly in the hard rock genre, but the music incorporates so many different vibes and feelings that it truly takes it beyond anything I've heard before. It is melodic and addicting while maintaining the powerful hard rock drive and strong sense of rhythm. Point One just recorded their major label debut at The Chop Shop with Scott Humphrey last November, and needless to say, the drums on the new album are killer. The album will be released May 22nd.

Having followed these guys from when they just played local clubs until now, their music has done nothing but draw me in as a fan for LIFE. Combining their incredible music with a spine tingling live show, these guys are DEFINATELY worth checking out.
