I have Roland KC-500 keyboard amp and lately the tweeter has been emitting crackly distortion from notes in the mid to high range. I would like to remove the tweeter to make sure it is the problem and then replace it, but how should I proceed? After unscrewing it should I just cut the wires and to replace it solder them back? i don't want to end up ruining the amp so advice on how to repair it would be appreciated.

Bob,

A lot of times speaker wires have slide-on connectors that avoid soldering altogether. If it has that, note which wire goes to which post and just slide them off. Then unfasten the speaker, replace, refasten, and slide the wires back on the correct posts. Same procedure for any type of connection/replacement. IOW, do exactly what you said.. snip them off, clean off some casing to expose new wire metal, and resolder. Just make sure to get the wires on the correct posts!

Best, Paul
