I have had an ART Pro Channel in the studio for years and I have a need to breath some new life into it. Has anyone got any first hand knowledge of what tubes will work best in it? I purchased Ei 12AX7 Elites and TungSol 12AX7 [New Production] tubes and both have their issues in this circuit. The Ei's have a noise floor about +17 dB above the factory products. The TungSols have a 300hz harmonic distortion. I am new to tube knowledge and will appreciate all the help I can get. I like the sound of the Ei Elites, (noted as Telefunken like), if I can find something like them without the unwanted noise.
I got some really fine, old tubes on Ebay. Telefunken, Sylvania, GE, etc., for good prices. The 12UA7's are nice, & don't break up as fast as the AX7's. Try it out, & switch 'em around...
