need advice, heres the story

so we've had this drummer for a bit now and he has played like 3 shows for us and original band thought he was just helping us until we had a drummer but us and the drummer knew that we wanted to be a band together, the other band just misinterpereted(sp?)

so now they don't want him to drum for us and their ultimatum is drum for them get kicked out, so he really wants to drum for us because he's more a fan of our music and he likes to play with us because we are fun to play with, but he likes the other music also and they are really successful, they are going on warped tour ten for ten cities and their debuet album is coming out this march..

also there are no drummers in our town that like they style we are playing. we've been at this for months for getting a drummer.

Well, the way I see it.

Would you really kick your drummer out of your band and try to get another one up to speed right before a tour?

Will the drummer come back from the tour and think he's had enough of that and them ? Or is he really looking forward to it. It might be a good idea to let it play out, If you let him know you'll be looking for a another drummer while he is on tour to fill in, It will really make him think about what He wants to do. He may tire of bieng with them 24/7.

It's really his decision isn't it. Even though it can be difficult, good bands that keep playing survive personel changes. Its part of the racket. You have to be willing to find someone else at anytime and plug them in. Your bass quits ,you have to find another bass, same with drummers ,singers, guitar players.

What Trill said: it's his decision, and it's not up to you, nor can anything you do at the moment sway him to stay with you.

I know it's disappointing, but that's the Catch-22 of working with good musicians: you get someone you really like, chances are you're not the only one who likes him.

The best way to stay competitive for the best musicians is to have a situation where you present the most attractive package. That goes beyond the music itself. In other words, if your band was playing the Warped Tour, this wouldn't be an issue.

Don't get frustrated or disappointed; this happens in every band. Keep working, keep looking for a new drummer, and good luck.

*1 Good bands with good musicians attract and draw other good musicians

I know a band that couldn't find a drummer so the lead guitarist switched to drums.
