Hey all,
I thought I would drop in and officially introduce myself and open up the lines of communication regarding EQ. My name is, quite obviously, Matt Harper; and I'm the "other editor", the one who is oftentimes chained to his desk and woefully neglected of the most basic of human needs, namely: lots and lots and lots of money. Turn ons include: lots and lots and lots of money while turn offs include: not lots and lots and lots of money. I'm not the type of guy you take home, but I am the kind of guy that wants to give you, the readers, the best possible magazine to take home in my stead.
So...
Any requests, content-wise? Anything I/we can do for you to make this magazine more enjoyable/informative for you? Is there anything that you have been itching to contribute--something you think the recording community needs to hear? I'm here to help you if you are here to tell me.
Don't be shy. Post whatever it is that strikes you as pertinent, or feel free to email me directly: mharper@musicplayer.com and I'll do my damndest to accomodate you.
Best,
Matt

Good start Matt, sounds like you don't have to take the offense to communicate with people in the industry. Since you made the offer, I intend to make contact once my current schedule slows down a bit. Thanks, Joe

I think a good, in depth article on gain staging would be a great thing. Including how 0dbvu relates to 0dbfs, there is a lot of confusion about this.

Another thought would be to de-bunk audio myths. I know Ethan Winer has an article like that. That would be a good start.

Dave,
How are you man? I feel little liberty in making official statements at this point in time regarding the changes that are occuring at EQ, but I know that news is being circulated quickly--and I can tell you that what you have probably heard is true. There will be official notice given to the community regarding these matters shortly.
In the interim, I urge every/anybody to feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns at mharper@musicplayer.com. I am here, and it's business as usual with me.
Fairview--great ideas that are duly noted. Is there anything in particular that you would wish to contribute? Remember, this is a community endeavor, and if there is anything you wish to share then I'm all ears.
Best,
Matt

EQ actually had a series like that a while ago, called Myths Revealed, and people liked it. Lynn Fuston did a lot of the legwork for those. The concept might well be worth re-visiting.

I just posted somne concrete things under the Crig returns listing.
Theory is GREAT, as it applies to everyone. I love "roundtables" - varied opinions are usually best. I just don't know that we can trust a single reviewer or commentator to find the good and bad of something for most applications.
The future (such as sexy gadgets, even goofy one-off inventions) are often interesting, no matter how expensive. It gives us room to dream of the future or owning something amazing. This is like Wired and Popular Science would do for upcoming crazy ideas. Many of them don't work in the marketplacem but that's what's interesting too - the far reaches of on train of thought.
Interviews could have sidebars for the gear - unless it's critical, it's JUST a list. When someone has a story about the acquiring or specific USE of something, then gear belongs in the text. "This is my favorite item" kind of things. Otherwise, theory and approach are what is best in text interviews. Do you try to make things commercial? How do you feel about collaboration, or being given someone else's project? etc etc.
