Greetings all.
I hear my favourite Richard Bona is on the current BP mag . I can't wait to get my copy \:\)
I once posted this topic on the Lowdown forum asking why 'Third World' Bass players weren't represented on the BP cover yet you do have readers in the Third World. The majority of the members suggested that it was due to the fact that most BP sales are made in the 'First World' hence the need to have First World players on the cover to appeal to the buyers.
Granted, I did understand the issue of market forces. However, surely legends who have impacted Bass playing should be on the cover, irrespective of where they hail from. I'm talking about Aston 'Familyman' Barrett, Robbie Shakespeare, Bakhiti Khumalo and Africa's version of Bootsy Collins, a Congolese bassist called Ngouma Lokito. He's a groove machine!
Now that Bona is on the cover, I pray that you do include the above and many other players from 'our world' so as to inspire more of us to play the bass after reading about people we can identify with.
Otherwise, THANK YOU for Bona on the cover. I just can't wait for my copy! \:\)
One Love

NB: Can you guys post me a Bass Player Magazine Car sticker? I'd love to stick one on my truck.

Yeah! What a great cover: after all the argumnets I'd read about needing to put commercilly known stars on the cover I was shocked and delighted to return home from the States to see Richard's face smiling up form the BP cover on my doormat.

He deserves it.

Now I will have to check out Ngouma Lokito.

I was ecstatic too .
Phill W, If you do a search on SOUKOUSS MUSIC, I am sure N'gouma Lokito's name will shoe up. He's on countless records in this genre. \:\)

Hey, I am quite pale and live in Italy, but had at least 50 LPs in my african section when I had Lps.
I had everything I could get from Tourč Kunda and Salif Keita. Mainstream, I guess.
I mean, Africa is not marginal. Everything I bought was on the radio (at least some radios).
Will check out Ngouma Lokito.

Thanks for the tip on N'gouma Lokito, guys! As for the bumper stickers, I'd definitely send one if we had any! Sorry 'bout that.

Rock on, fellas.
