Hello Editors,
Truth is, I haven't been reading the magazine as much as I have been lurking the forumns on the 'Lowdown. Used to buy every month but somehow over the years I lost interest, reasons why might be I found less material interesting or appealing, that might just be be me.
There's many amazing knowledge and personalities in these forums. Maybe some of them would agree to shed a pearl of wisdom each month in a special column w/ short interview and bio, dedicated to experienced and knowledgeable Lowdowners. You never know who you're getting in next month's column, and I'm sure every one would be groovin, be it a lesson or story or whatever...
If BP magazine and the Lowdown are reppin' together on the web then why not in the magazine as well? Or are you already somehow incorporating the Lowdown to the Magazine, is doing so even possible, etc etc Thank You,
PS - I don't include myself in those who would do a column, I'm still cuttin my teeth on the local band circuit...
Thank You,
Rick

Hiya Rick,
Well since you're not reading the magazine ... you might have missed our new-ish Introduce Yourself piece in Bass Notes. It's all based on reader submissions and features a photo of the player and their answers to about 11 questions. It can include anyone from the 13-year-old beginner to a 41-year playing veteran, so working the local band circuit is pretty typical.
So far, we've had a Lowdowner or two appear. If you have a good digital photo and complete the information, you've got as good a chance as anybody of getting in the magazine. Check out a copy of a recent issue for information on how to submit something for consideration.

The "Introduce Yourself" section is pretty cool. Now that it's been in there a few months, it's been really nice to see a variety of players represented.
Some of us on the LDL have learned quite a bit from some of the veterans who post there, particularly those who have served as music teachers.
I'd like to point out that I've learned quite a bit from moderator Dave Brown (a.k.a., davebrownbass or DBB), veteran URB and electric player, h.s. orchestra director, and bass teacher and wiley veteran player and teacher, Jeremy Cohen. There are others from whom I've benefited greatly, but both of those fellahs are definitely capable of writing an excellent lesson or educational column. Just in case you're interested...
Of course, you've already got some bang-up folks contributing lessons now. And the breakdown of beginner, intermediate, and advanced is really useful.
Peace. --SW

Greg- just got the new issue (w/Verdine White)over the weekend. I noticed there wasn't an "Introduce Yourself" column in this issue. Was this due to a lack of submissions; or the space being pre-empted with the unfortunate obituaries; or something else?
And Yes, Verdine was exhibiting an "unusual" bass pose, without ripping the strings off!

Hello BP editors:
Want to give a special round of applause to contributor Vail Johnson who wrote "Soundmen Aren't Servants" for the Oct. issue. He got it SO RIGHT!!!
