I've always been curious...
What do you editors have in your personal arsenals of instruments and rigs and other musical sundries?
Also, what kind of gigs do you play?
And, no, the equipment that comes through your offices doesn't count as your "personal" gear! And the raging gigs that must happen from time to time in the famous BP soundroom don't count as your "personal" gigs/bands!
Peace. --SW
I understand that the fact that y'all use particular gear should not imply some sort of endorsement.

Hey Dr. Willie...
Between the four of us editors, as well as our regular contributors, most of the hallowed (and not so hallowed) instruments in bassdom are represented in our personal collections. And, not unlike most other bassists, those collections are constantly evolving. Honestly, we don't get much of a chance to play our personal stuff because we're always out-and-about testing gear for review.
I'll let the other Editors speak for themselves regarding their gigs (they'll all be online at some point this week), but as for me I do a lot of different stuff...mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area. I used to be in Zigaboo Modeliste's band...I currently play with a semi-latin-jazz artist named Gregory James (www.gregoryjames.com); an original soul/jazz project called Madi and the Service; a local horn player, Carlos Washington; occasional gigs with Freaktet. I also do sessions...most recently with Madi and local jazz vocalist Rhiannon...I sub for Kai Eckhardt...do lots of one-off gigs...play for musicals, casuals, etc., etc....just your basic working bass player.

C'mon Jon - 'fess up. You love your F-Bass 5....
What amp rig is gathering dust while you try out new rigs??? Can I guess? Acoustic 136??
Bill - you take pics with a bass for your editorial page - is it a Lakland?? Inquiring (and nosy) minds want to know..
Tom

My gigging schedule has been woefully open in the last few months, but I'll have a few this next month up near Portland, OR.
I play in a Balkan (mostly Macedonian and Greek) band that's playing up there at a music camp. I had a great time up there last year, so it should be cool!

Jon pretty much nailed it when he wrote that he rarely gets to play his own, paid-for stuff because of the gear we’re all testing every month. I for one, am still tickled to have a new toy to play with every month, even—or maybe especially—if it is something totally unlike what I’d ever purchase for personal use.
As for gigs, I’ve had a really busy year outside of work and have been hiding out a little too much from the public eye. But, I’m trying to warm my upright chops back up so that I can get back out there without embarrassing myself. [Read: play in tune.]

Hello guys. Jon, I know Zigaboo(king of da funky drumz), I even got a Zigaboo funky hat and t-shirt! I also saw the Funky Meters at the Fillmore when I was living in San Francisco. Lots of good times in that town, I would love to go back there someday.
I must admit I was an avid reader of BP for some time but stopped. Now I'll have to go out and pick up an issue and see what I've been missing.
