Welcome to the BP Editor's Office forum. Here you can fire away with kudos, complaints, questions or suggestions. I'll be actively online for the next hour or so (it's currently 2:25PM PST on Mon 8/15) if you have any kudos, complaints, suggestions, or questions, and other BP staffers we'll be on later in the week.

Here goes...

Dear Bill and the other brave editors!

It's great to see you here!

I've got a copy of every issue ever printed!

I hope you guys all have purchased asbestos underwear for your voyage into cyberspace.

However, you won't hear any complaints from me!
(Maybe you will hear a comment or suggestion from time to time.)

Keep up the good work.

Hey Jeremy,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Sounds like your BP collection is better than mine!

Asbestos underwear? Do you really think we're flameworthy?

Bill

Hey y'all!

Nice to see that you've carved out a space for yourself (and us!) here at the MP forums.

I got to meet some of you at BP Live last year. I hope to be able to hit MP Live this fall, but I must admit that I kinda wish it were just BP Live again. Something about the brotherhood of bass... Nonetheless, the grander family of musicians is probably really where it's at.

I've really enjoyed the last couple of issues of BP. Dug the articles on Willie Weeks and Darryl Jones. Also thought the piece on Brian Bromberg was interesting.

Dan Erlewine's stuff has been great. I may never do even a third of the things he's doing and writing about, but I appreciate the knowledge base.

Peace.

Love the changes you folks have made on the mag, just one tweek I can tell you about. How about showing more pictures of the gear you guys review? Some of the guitar pic's don't tell the whole story. Thanks again and keep up the great work!!

Decided to stop by for a visit. Nice and roomy here. Like the plants. \:\)

Suggestion: Maybe a small spot in BP, "Notes from the Low Down." Some highlights on current topics on the forum. Just a thought.

So far, so good.

My bad...brotherhood and sisterhood of bass.

Maybe ATM will create a "BP Editors' Office" forum t-shirt...

Peace.

Hi Bill,

Just wanted to say I think it's great that you guys are making yourselves accessible to your readers.

I've learned a lot from reading BP over the past 15 years. Thanks for your contribution to my bass education.

One question - there used to be a BP archives site that had some really great interviews and other info. Any chance some of that content can be integrated into the new site?

Hi Quinn,

I can field your question RE: the archives. We are currently in the process of integrating the BP archives (as well as the Guitar Player, Keyboard and EQ archives) into the new site(s), and it is a HUGE job, so it's taking much longer than planned. But as the archives are gone through and integrated they will start to come up in site searches.

Hey Bill and co.
Great to see you guys here. I'm an avid albeit obsessed reader of BP since ONLY 2003!! \:o
Anyhow, I was in the UK then, I'm now in Uganda East Africa. I still get my monthly BP's mailed here....I don't care how late.

I must say the magazine truly means SO MUCH to me. It inspires my bass playing. The changes are great too. Problem is, I probably am the only bassist here who gets the mag, so I have to share it out with the whole nation!! \:D I still keep all my copies.

NB: The Lowdowners refuse to believe Bill resembles me... \:D or is it the other way round? I'm on http://www.blackrootsunlimited.com
See for yourselves! Kidding.

Uganda, eh? When I was at UCLA I played in a Ugandan music ensemble, playing xylophone (madinda) and harp (adungu). No joke! I can still play a tune or two on the adungu. If you ever get a chance to see a guy named James Makubuya play, do it -- he's a great guy and an amazing musician. Last I heard he was teaching music at MIT, but I imagine he goes home to Uganda once in a while.

Glad to see that the magazine makes it all the way over there, and you're a good man for sharing! Aside from yourself, who are the biggest, baddest Ugandan bass players?

What?? It's a small world I tell ya! Makubuya used to teach us while I was in my Primary school choir. He's amazing with African instruments

My other mentor is James Muwanga now in the UK. He's put down the Bass for a while...now playing guitar .
Grace Lukomwa is another super bassline creator and groover. He's in Boston USA at the moment.

My current 'instructor' and bandmate Fred
Walusimbi is mean on bass though he's primarily a Jazz guitarist and very good on piano.
That's just about it really.m Some good players in Evangelical churches here too.

Awesome! Thanks for the tips. What are the big Adungu strings made out of? The strings on mine (mid-size, I guess) feel like wound cotton thread. Is it the same on the big ones?

In case you're wondering what in the world we're talking about, here's a photo:

Hi Brian.
It's the same material, though more smaller strings are wound together to create a bigger gauge so to speak! ;\)
Man, they aren't kind to the fingers. One has to be hardcore to get used.
The sound is fantastic!
Like an acoustic bass. Thanx for posting the picture of the Adungu. You should hear the sound of a complete Adungu band! Awesome .

Hey guys at Bass Player and fellow readers. Just started playing Bass around June and got my first issue of Bass Player. Great magazine with Paul McCartney on the cover. A great way to start out. Enjoy the magazine greatly and look forward to many years of playing and laying it down on the Bass Player forum.

I've started playing the bass again after putting it down for almost 20 years. The bass, the subscription to BPM and my finding this forum all occured withing a very short time.

I just want to say how much BPM and LDLD have helped me since I started playing again. Both have been invaluable resouces, instrumental instruction and yes, even frivolous and entertaining. Thanks to both BPM Staff and LDLD members for putting out a quality product.

I meant to post my reply on this topic a couple of days ago, but when I went over to the "Editors' Office" page the only topic on display was "Monthly 'Lowdowner Column/Lesson In Back of BP" so I posted my comments there. (click HERE to read it) Thought someone here would like to give it a look-see and pass on my kudos to Vail.
