I'ed like to say that there is nothing wrong with compairing the value of 2 guitars. Where you went wrong was trying to show the value between a $500 Epi and a $5000 Gibson guitar. Get real, stick with guitars in the same price range. I would much rather see a compairson between, Epi and Ibanez or maybe ESP where a serious compairson can exist between each in the quality, materials and workmanship. Most people would like the $5000 Gibson but can only afford a $500 guitar.

Dear Johnny...

Fight Club is open to all challengers, and we've opened the floor to suggestions from the various forums.

For the Epi vs. Gibson debut, we were answering queries from countless readers as to what exactly goes into those treasured high-end Gibsons, and are those elements extravagantly better than those employed by more affordable guitars? We thought the Les Paul to Les Paul comparison was a favorable match, and there has been a lot of comments about the piece on this joint, Harmony Central, and other online guitar forums.

Please feel free to post YOUR desired combatants. We simply need suggestions to be specific, so we can consider the actual models being asked to go face-to-face.

All the Best,
Mike

I'd love to see Behringer stomp boxes and amplifiers compared to the "big name" brands which they very clearly emulate. I own a Behringer GDI-21 pedal, which sounds to me almost exactly like I remember my old Tech-21 Sans Amp pedal to have sounded.

Hi

Just recieved my first issue in the mail & loved the Fight Club article about the Gibson & Epiphone Les Pauls. I have an Ibanez Les Paul I bought in the summer of 1978. Over the years I have been told it's "pre-lawsuit". The serial number starts with 77 so I'm assuming it was made in 1977. I don't know the whole story but I guess it was a little too close to the Gibson in design. Not sure if that simply means the shape of the guitar or more than just that. I've often thought about trading it in on something else, but do like it. I was wondering if you have any idea how this guitar compares to the Gibson & the Epiphone sonically etc. and what it may be worth.

Thanks!

I thought the EPI vs Gibson comparison was great! With the point of the story being. Do you really have to shell out the big bucks for a Gibson or will an Epi copy do the trick?.....

I also loved the Fight Club article, but thought it would be a bit better comparing the Epi with a Gibson LP Standard rather than a very high-end Reissue LP. I could see you comparing Fender MIM Standards, MIJ Deluxes, and USA Standard guitars. I think it would be too much to compare a MIM Standard Strat with a Custom Shop Strat
Great idea, tho!!! Thanx!! JP

I think an LP std vs. an LP std would have made more sense although it is encouraging to think that I made a decent decision when I bought my Epi Lp std + in March of '06.That neck pickup is needing replacement though.Clean tones are pretty dull sounding.Otherwise no complaints.
