Hey Guys,
Great Issue!!!
Any article that puts Jim Weider, Tampa Red, Jerry Reed and Mike Oldfield together has got to be great!!!!

But where is Danny Kalb???
Even before Danny started playing electric and formed the Blues Project he was considered one of the very best and innovative guitarists around the NYC Folk scene. A protege of Dave Van Ronk, he played on early '60's releases by Phil Ochs, Judy Collins and many others. At one time, Bob Dylan played with him!!

The Blues Project was the preeminent NYC Blues band, mixing Folk, Rock and Jazz with the Blues. They played often with Chicago Blues stars Muddy Waters, Otis Spann and others and had friendly battles with the Butterfield Blues Band featuring Mike Bloomfield. Danny is one of the few people who could make Mike Bloomfield nervous as stated on page 223 of Michael Bloomfield: If you love these Blues: "...Michael as really hot that night because Danny Kalb came. He hadn't seen him in years, and Michael got a little bit nervous. I'd never seen him like that. He wanted to show Danny that he could really do something".

Promoter Howard Solomon of the Cafe au Go Go said about Danny in 1999: "Danny Kalb.......is up there with the best of all blues legends.......his work for me at Cafe' au Go Go was amazing.......I've worked with the greatest of all time and he is at the top......Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Jimi Hendrix ,John Mayal, Zappa all greats but Danny will emerge in the top 5."

Danny is alive and well and living in Brooklyn. He plays solo and trio gigs in the NYC and Upstate NY areas. He has recordings available at http://www.cdbaby.com . His website is http://www.dannykalb.net

Thanx!!! John Profeta
PS: Truth in advertising: Along with being a lifelong Blues Project/Danny Kalb fan, I am the Webmaster of Danny's Webpage, Not because I get paid (I don't), but because the Blues Project got me thru High School and taught me more about music than any lessons did.
PSS: Where is Dave Van Ronk on your list?? :-0

Yes, I have to agree. The Feb. issue is awesome.

I especially enjoyed the short editor's forum when everyone that tried out an amp in the Gear Roundup gave their impressions based on their experiences while trying them out.

I really enjoyed the changes (still slightly bummed about the musicnotes thing and no full transcriptions) but I really look forward to whats in store for 07'. Keep up the good work in creating the best guitar mag around.

I, too have enjoyed most of what I've read so far of this issue. Glad to see Steve Hackett get a page or two; but was surprised at some of the album choices. No mention of Guitar Noire, possibly one of his best? And too much reference to his Genesis albums. Yes, they were how most people got to know him initially; but he's put out more solo works than Genesis albums. Plus, I like "Seconds Out", \:D

The "lost guitarists" column was neat, and had lots of people I'd never known by name. Would have liked to see Steve Rothery* mentioned there; but you can't please everyone, right? Other odd thing was... Rodrigo y Gabriella? They're a pretty new act. Glad to see them get some attention, but don't think that was the best way to catagorize them.

And glad to see the voices here be heard in the "Top 40 Guitar tones" column.

Thanks for all you do, and keep it up!

*Marillion's 14th studio album "SOMEWHERE ELSE" comes out this Spring; just enough time for you to do a corresponding interview!

I agree - a great issue, and great to see some of these great players made known to a broader public.

I am definitely looking to check out Oscar Aleman and Hollywood Fats, and Jerry Reed... and certain others, though there is so little time to listen to CDs these days. I have several of them I only listened to once... it might not hurt to get my money's worth out of them first!

It surprised me to see Davy Allen and Erik Braun (from Iron Butterfly), but hey, I haven't heard these guys in 30+ years.. maybe I missed something!

So, that was Bolin on the cover? I kept looking at it, and couldn't figure it out. Did I miss the ID somewhere? I saw a photographer credit, but wasn't sure WHO the subject was. For a while I thought it was a shot of Edward VanHalen, but thought something didn't quite look right...

For the benefit of those of us with deteriorating facial-recognition skills, is there some way you can make it obvious who's being depicted on the cover?

That article on Leo Fender was Great!! I'd love to see more about Leo, and the development of the Tele and the Strat, and some of the old amps, like the Bassman. Also, perhaps stuff about the development of the Les Paul would be interesting.

I really enjoyed the current issue with the article comparing all of those amps.

Good work!!

Glad you guys liked the Feb. issue. We had a blast putting that together. April is the one that I think will turn into a real coffee table issue, with tons of great info and pics. Enjoy!

I just got the March GP and it's the first time in a long while I've bought a guitar mag without feeling like a 52 year old dork. I'm referring to the fact that instead of the usual rock star holding an axe, you had the courage to veer off into some artwork that actually looks sort of creative. The 40 exercises you've dredged from the vaults was great. And when people walk into my room and say "Omygod- lookit all those piles of old GP mags all over the floor" the March issue has given me the perfect reply - "Just superchargin' my chops"

52 is young! As an old fart of 53, nearly 54, all I gotta say is...

RESPECT YOUR ELDERS!!

And... ain't no dork like an old dork....
