While Guitar Player & a few others are great resources for info on all aspects of the business, there is no single repository of info on older equipment for old fucks like me. In particular, it is extremely difficult to find any material on discontinued guitars and effects.
In some cases, manufacturers have folded, been acquired or merged. In other cases (Gibson, for instance) they just don't seem to care. This makes evaluating vintage equipment rather problematic, as well as making repairs or tweaks.
While the ROI on such an endeavor might not thrill suits, the benefits to guitar players and collectors are obvious. Resources can be pooled by particpating organizations to make something like this more feasible, & I can think of several ways to recoup costs, but it seems that just by it's very nature, something this momentus should be headed up by THE resource for guitar players.

What do you need…?...suppositories? ;\)

Well…you’ve already stated the problem with your plan…
….it is extremely difficult to find any material on discontinued guitars and effects
…so what makes you think it will be any easier for anyone else?

These days…if you can’t Google it…it probably doesn’t exist…or if it does, then someone doesn’t want you to have it.

You know…it may be easier/simpler if you post you some specific questions on these forums for specific gear that you are looking for….as there is a good chance someone may have that info for you…
…rather than expecting some “universal vintage gear catalog” to be assembled.

Just recently…some guy up in Canada must have Googling for info on a Fostex tape recorder…and he found some of my posts about that same recorder.
He emailed me directly…and I ended up photocopying the manual of the recorder, and sending it to him.

So you gotta’ do a little leg work on your own…and there’s no guarantee that you will find what you are looking for.
