As some of you might be aware of , 2007 will mark the 40th year of existence of this great American magazine... ...I have in my hands the 30th anniversary issue that had been published in January 1997 and I thought I (we, as a matter of fact)could give a few suggestions for the yet to be printed 40th anniversary issue. Here are mines:
1-Instead of printing the covers of back issues on the frontpage , just put a guitar(you pick the brand and style)...that will pretty much sum it up.
2-Tell us what the future holds for this wonderful instrument.Gear, new players (from around the globe please)new trends and all.
3-If you include a giveaway...the whole GP collection could be nice.(on DVD?)
4-Don't forget about Micheal Hedges this time...
5-Try to highlight players who have stood the test of time and have provided us with a legacy during those four decades that is simply impossible to forget.
6-Stories from the editors (funny moments , unforgettable interviews , sad moments ) could be interesting.
7- Organizing a concert or even a TV special with major players. Here it is...if anybody wants to join in...

I second the idea of a TV special! Certainly PBS should be interested if you can't get it on prime time!
It could be part concert, and part old footage (say Wes, Chet, Segovia, Django..) in addition to the rockers.
Now who's going to PAY for it? I don't know, but the DVD could be a good seller for YEARS.... after the guitar is still the most popular instrument out there, ain't it? And the most versatile...

Id like like it if all past and present contributors and buyers of Guitar Player gathered together somewhere and played Smoke on the Water.

Let's all gather in Washington DC and do it next to the Lincoln Memorial or wherever that huge open space is!
How are we going to plug all those amps in? Or would it be an unplugged deal?
Or would it levitate the Pentagon? I remember that was tried unsuccesfully back in the '60s with chanting and whatnot, and "out, demons, out"... but not with thousand of guitarists playing! It'd be better than flying an airplane into it anyway.....

For those without can amps, don't worry the flying saucers will take care of everything - those close encounter guys got the tune all wrong. It's Smoke on the Water or nothing!
