How important is your band to you?

Reason I'm asking is, my band has an upcoming show in about 4 weeks, and so far
(*) the singer/guitarist has cancelled one rehearsal because he was supposedly sick (but since he called 10 minutes before we were supposed to start rehearsing something tells me his new girlfriend has more to do with that) (*) the drummer cancelled the week after that because he had to go and help out for the scouts he's (apparently with) (*) so for tomorrow, I have cancelled because my misses and me wanna go somewhere and I figure that if the rest don't care, why should I?
So I text-message them and I get a call on my answering machine from the guitarist saying "yeah but you know I'm off the next Monday with my misses so we'll have one or two rehearsals max before the show".
As if it's all of a sudden my fault, and everything comes down to me cancelling whatever plans I have and instead go for that one rehearsal ... He knows when we rehearse same as me so why does he schedule a weekend (including a Monday) before what he deems an important gig?
To be honest, I'm losing motivation again, because it's becoming increasingly clear that aside from the occasional performance in front of friends and family, these guys want to achieve absolutely nothing. And while I don't want much, I do like some level of commitment. If I can't have that from the others, I won't bother myself.

Often this comes up with bands that are in the early stages or may not depend on their performances for a living. It's not something that you can allow when a professional existence is the plan.
The flip side is: How important are you to your band ? For that question, I'd suggest that unless the idea is a star-figure + back-up crew, one also steer clear of any one-sidedness.
Either way, if one wants to make a living as a musician, dependability is as vital as showing up at any other job.

Here's another slant. My band is a release of my daily stresses (as you can imagine). Music has always been my refuge (cue soft violins), a place of solace when I am feeling overwhelmed... AH- CUT THE CRAP!!! I love to play, and it's the only time I have to just be myself without worrying about getting sued, suspended, fired or reported to the Better Business Bureau.

This is hard for me because I've been on both sides of the issue many times. In recent weeks I've cancelled and rescheduled a few rehearsals so I could accomodate my need to change apartments and pack before the end of the month as well as keep up with the needs of the various groups I work with. For the most part everyone's been understanding about it, but I've gotten the occasional snipe about last-minute cancellations and commitment. Sickness happens now and then, as do last-minute calls from friends and family that intrude on your plans. As the saying goes, "life happens while you're busy making plans".
I think every situation should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. A consistently-absent member needs to be confronted on their commitment, but when an entire band does it, I think it's time for the entire band to take a vacation or allow everyone to go their separate ways.
Eddie, from your description I can see you're not the problem and the others should think twice before throwing stones. As jay da cop put it, rehearsals should be a release from stress rather than the cause. I also think as the show date gets closer the others will see the need for a couple of good rehearsals and fall in line. Happens that way in my bands.
