Hey guys

Hey Jeff I didn't realize you had your own forum, cool.
Well we've finally found an awsome drummer for my band, bass, guitar(me) and drums! I'm sure many of you can understand this situation!
I'm in a room 12' X 16', in it consists my computers, racks, firewire mixer, speakers (the control room) as well, I have my Pod XT Live\Variax combo which I can record direct or amped, bass as well direct or live and a real drum kit! I currently have a Rode NT2 condenser and a AT 4033 condenser as well as a shure 57 and a 58! The room itself has to also house my wife's artistic side with paint easles, tables, lights! So sectioning off the kit is next to imposible! Do you think I'd be able to record this right off the floor without mic'ing the kic, snr, tom's OH's bass and guitar! If I do the traditional way then we'd have to have everyone wear headphones etc. I was thinking moving stuff around, using the 2 condensor mic's like overheads and just recording a 2 track take! Anyone had any luck with this? This won't be for a CD release(yet). But we'd want it sounding fairly decent even to just exchange idea's, may even post a take here! My room has been treated with bass traps mostly for mixing with again decent results. I've been using drum samples for so long I forgot how pleasing it is to have someone that can jam extremely well. \:D
Thanks for any thoughts.
Later
Bri

I've recorded stuff with 1 mic before, a really crappy dynamic one as well, into a PC, with no special software and had it sound.. well, like we recorded ourselves. You might have some good luck if you level check well, as your using an acoustically treated room. Personally, to make a track i usualy go for recording each part at a time to a click or a take of the drummer.

Seclusion, I am no expert on recording. I can only speak from experience. We usually mike all the drums . That may require you making some makeshift barriers out of old carpet to control him. We are fortunate to have a plexiglass bubble. We all play together thru headsets until we are happy with the bass and drum rythym, this will be our scrath track. Once we feel the drum part and rythym is good we go over each part. If the bass needs a touch up ,he will touch up or replay . Then add each individual instrument and vocals one at a time .

Foot Funk is two overheads and bass drum mic, bass DI, mic guitar in anouther room, keys pluged into the board, recorded to a Mini Disc, mastered to a CD through a graphic EQ.
