As we've discussed, there are all kinds of reasons people get into bands. From your personal perspective, what is the main goal of your band?

By the way... you can vote for multiple choices. Yes, I know that kind of negates the point of the "main goal", but I figured it's almost never just one.

And he forgot "To bicker like children over things that don't matter so much that all joy in making music is stolen", and my favorite, "To violently explode and inspire grudges that last a lifetime". Those seem like very common denoument for bands, especially famous ones...

That's IT!!! \:D \:D

Well, I would suppose my main goal is to HAVE a band with folks that were both decent musicians and didn't have their heads up their asses.

Actually, I've kinda got that band...with three other guys. I recorded 'em all on my iPod.

I actually wrote, then erased, "to get laid". I figured that although this is probably a secondary goal of many people starting a band, it's unlikely that anyone who joined a band primarily to get some opposite sex action would be reading this forum anyway. \:D

Well you never know, they might come here expecting tips on how to score, and not realize you have to know how to write music to do that. \:D

Not true - with the right software, you don't really know how to write music. You can score virtually. Just look at the screen, play using your hands, and presto. Auto score.

Is there some sort of double-speak thing going on here?

My personal goal is to go out and perform, and express myself musically. Some band members want to write original material and get record deals etc. Ironically, it's the older members. Both the drummer and I (21 and 24 respectively) want to stick to cover songs \:D

I voted for "Be a working band". Our main goal has been to get to the point where we are playing out twice a month and we have pretty much succeded so far.

None of us desire to make a living out of this. We all have well paying jobs and no plans to give that up. It is liberating in a way, we play the music we want to play, where and when we want to play it. If we don't like a deal we have no problem saying "no thank you".

We all get along pretty well so the stress level is very low.

My bands main goal is to promote its artistry within music and make it in the music buisness.
