I Got to try one of these puppies out this weekend.Awesome I was tracking a female vocalist, doing traditional eastern music and some originals,in a similar genre. I used a RCA 44BX,through the Vipre, and into the Glory comp, into the Panasonic DA7,then into Protools LE 6.4. With the Heaven/Earth setting full to earth, this baby is ultra transparent, even at 6:1,with a low threshold. You can adjust the Heaven/Earth on the fly going full dial right to left without messing up your tracks,it just adds a little more upper harmonics,it does get a little gritty on the louder passages when set full to Heaven. I think I might buy it,pretty hard to justify though, considering that I usually track straight from the pre, without any limiting. I'm going to try mastering a Mono track through this baby.

I'm mastering a roots CD project for a freind(Full kit w/brushes,string bass, guitars, and vocals). It's a mono recording. He used a single Apex 460 multi-pattern tube mic in omni, and a GT Brick pre into Sonar via an M-Audio interface. They did a really good job of mic placement, and self mixing on most of the tracks, but some of the tracks the drummer is striking the hat a little too hard. He gave me a 16 bit 44.1k CD,so I ran all of the tracks analog through the Glory Comp and into Protools, and created a 24bit 48k file as one method of importing. I also imported all of the files digitaly, into Wavelab. Most of the songs that went through the Glory Comp just recieved very light limiting at 6:1,with the Heaven/Earth control set full to Heaven. This tamed the peaks, gave the vocal a nice top presence, and rounded off the razor sharp hats. On the tracks where the hats needed taming,I employed the side chain EQ to trigger the compressor, and this really did the trick, and did a much more transparent job than the Waves linear multi band compressor because it didn't attenuate the overall highs,or hi mids. I used the same plugs in PT as I did in WL(Lin MB,and the L2),but the Gory tracks from PT ended up 3dB louder, and sounded very full, much warmer, with a much more cohesive quality. I think that this piece of gear is going in my rack,I only wish I could afford Two.
