We all know one thing absolutely as critical listeners, that at the very end of the audio chain are your monitor speakers. We demand the most transparent, flat freq response and near perfect phase and time-alignment. Having these qualities in your speakers determines how your mixes will sound everywhere else. KRK provided accuracy in monitoring. I was a consistent user and endorser of KRK monitors up until yesterday 8-1-06. We should expect and/or insist on quality, timely, follow-up of satisfactory customer service. Somewhere along the way, KRK has failed and lost all ability to provide the prompt, personable public relations relations that were a trademark of theirs. I made a simple request of two promotional "free" t-shirts and chaos ensued. The man, Rick, in PR/MARKETING claims to have ordered the shirts specially over 3 weeks ago but has found them still sitting unmailed. He made no effort to follow up, never returned my emails inquiring as to their whereabouts nor returning my phone calls. The department head, Bernadette, I found to be completely uncooperative when I requested assistance, nonforthcoming with information and generally thoroughly unprofessional. I cannot and will not do business ever again with this company, let this serve as a warning.

A warning...?

For what exactly...?...

…that no one should ever ask for "free" t-shirts from KRK...? \:D

What the HELL do free t-shirts have to do with the quality of their speakers and/or their customer service in support of those speakers...???

I think you have a personal axe to grind over not getting your free swag...and IMO...this forum is NOT the place to grind that axe.

You are upset, and are basing your monitoring decisions upon the company that will give you a free tshirt?

I've been in the business a long time, and I have gotten some really amazing swag. I like it as much as anyone. But I never base my tech info on that factor. In fact, such swag is in the hands of the sales and promo people, and I have a hearty suspicion of sales and promo types. I prefer to hang with the techies who design, build, and tweek the stuff. That being the case, I don't often get swag from the companies whos products I use, I just get top quality products that perform the way that I expect them to perform, for years on end. I get swag from the show floors. It is always fun, and I am indeed grateful to those who provide it. And I do not look upon it as a devine right.

If Rich had failed to get the replacement parts in the mail, the critical parts you need to get back on line and in business, I could understand your rancor. But your pissed about a couple of shirts that you didn't pay for anyway? I guess that we all have our priorities.

You have all completely missed my point. I do not have a personal axe to grind. I too have been in this this business a long time (20+ years), and have known this company and their people just as long. They have obviously gone through personnel changes and these changes have not been for the best. I orignally emailed them requesting, not demanding. They respectfully replied with, "sure, send us a mailing address".

No...there’s no missed point...

Let’s see…
What is your *real" beef with them....?
That you got blown off over a request for a couple of free t-shirts....right?

Sorry dude...just seems like a trite issue to be hitting the forums with "warnings" about KRK in how they conduct "business".
From your first post...it's obvious you were quite determined on getting the free t-shirts as you mentioned sending repeated emails and multiple phone calls.
You know…maybe, in their eyes, you just became a real PITA over the t-shirts…and they just “left the phone off the hook”…???
I can see if you paid for them....and they took your money and then blew you off.
But hey…it's about 2 friggin' FREE t-shirts! \:D

Here's a personal example of just "letting shit go"...

I bought a guitar amp from Traynor/Yorkville a couple of years ago.
And one day I made a phone call to ask some tech questions...and one of their techs talked to me for awhile (very pleasant)…and when I asked him about possible mods I could do to the amp...he said, "Send me an email, and I'll get back to you on the mods”.
Well...I followed up with one…and then two more emails over a 2-3 month period....and the guy never responded to any of them.

Does that mean that Traynor/Yorkville is now all of a sudden a lousy company that has lousy business practices...?
No...it's just one of those insignificant things that managed to get under their radar…
…much like your need for free t-shirts.

Just let it go....

Seems to be a lot of that going around, doesn't there?

Wow, I hate to say it Chris, but having a public hissy fit about some t-shirts make you seem like prima donna. I mean, it would be one thing if you were this pissed about something that actually made a difference, like a component or something, but t-shirts? 'Tis truly much ado about nothing, if you ask me.

That being said, I just never really cared for their monitors in the first place, so that's the reason they don't get my business.

I never found KRK speakers remotely listenable.

but that's me.

I have no opinion re: their T-Shirts.
but if they are as mid-light as their speakers, they're going to look funny.

William, their t-shirts have the best passive crossover around. A true feat of technology.

Can I just add a bit here?
Focusrite (KRK) have always been 100% with servicewith us, thier support is top class, thier products are solid and we are particulalry fond of the Liquid range. We actually demo'd some KRK's, they didnt really stand a chance against the AIR 6's we decided upon (tcelectronics also superb) but they still sent our a demo pair of monitors, left them with us for a few weeks and were happy with our feedback about the speakers when we said they weren't quite what we were looking for this time.

Last time we popped down to see them, we came home with a boot full of goodies - absolutely brilliant.

We certainly are VERY happy

Regards

It is always possible for a top notch organization to have a bad day, and just in terms of odds, everyone is not going to be always satisfied, no matter what you do. These are realities, no matter how hard we might try to circumvent them. I don't think that any of the responders have lost sight of this. We are just amazed at the logic employed. (free Tshirts +monitors = great monitors. remove free Tshirts, and both monitors and company suck.)

It's also possible (demonstrably) to have sterling customer service and lousy products.

Hmmm. If someone's monitors did what I required, I would USE them, no matter how their customer service was - unless the customer service prevented me from using their gear properly (like blown drivers not available). Otherwise, why wouldn't you use what works?

Seriously - are you going to sacrifice the quality of YOUR own work because someone else forgot to mail a TShirt out?

I still use a pair of KRK 7000's I bought ten years ago. There is a certain weirdness to them. However, I don't feel that they lie to you.

FWIW - I've noticed that the 7000's have appeared many times in studio porn in EQ and MIx mags.

However, the current line is pretty broad if ya know what I mean.

Also FWIW- A couple years back I needed new drivers and I recall getting decent support.

I recall being very impressed with the KRK V-88's that came out 7 or 8 years ago (the ones that came with the twin 8" Kevlar woofers). I was especially taken with the very clear, but un-hyped high end (couldn't say the same for the V-8's) and solid low end. However, I couldn't quite justify the $1600 a pair street price at the time.

But when they were discontinued a few years back, I picked up a pair for less than half that. What really surprised me was that in a near-field application, the bass didn't really seem to be there (thought they must have been out of phase). It wasn't until I stepped back about 10-12 feet that the low end came into balance. Considering their large size it shouldn't have been much a surprise that these were more like mid-field monitors, although they were never really advertised as such.

Since my control room was just too small for these beasts, I did the next best thing. I bought a third unit and they now occupy the front line of my 5.1 surround system in my media room - and they sound great there.

I don't know much about their current products (I believe at least some of their models are made in China rather that Surf City, USA - Huntington Beach, CA) but I can say at least some of their vintage stuff is alright in my book.

Who the heck cares about KRK monitors , there
too coloured sounding to me , so fake not true.
If you want to harp about cheap companies, well
they should all be cheap there are just some that
hide that fact well \:\) I would say free T's are
like nothing compared to free "NFR" software
or gear. So if your a true audiophile you get
that kind of free stuff not just kool T's.
