Somehow I managed to get roped into doing a live recording of an evening of recitals at a local church tomorrow night!
There will be organ solos, a guitar solo, and some choir/organ recitals.
I've never done a live recording in a church before, so I'd appreciate any advice regarding micing to make sure I capture the best possible audio.
I went over to the church earlier tonight (Sat) and set up my gear for a test run. I ran two electret mics placed up high, level with the front of the congregation at about 1/3 the width of the church in from each side - I pointed these mics towards the rear corners of the church - seemed to pick up a nice stereo image (with almost no airconditioner noise) doing that. I also put a large diaphragm condenser mic right in the center at the front of the congregation - this picks up the announcer nicely and seems to fill in the bass and middle well.
The test recordings I did came out very well, but I wonder if they could be improved by moving the mics? Has anyone any experience of micing a church for an organ recital? My guess is that the same mic placements will work okay for the choir/organ part, but not for the guitar recital. For that, I'm going to have to move the mics closer (one pointing at the hole and the other pointing at the 12th fret, right?).
Any helpful advice would be most welcome! You have until 5pm Sunday to post it here.....
Thanks, :DTR
