Thanks for putting up the link. It's REALLY caused a lot of people to give in and order. We understand it's a faith/committment thing, but the reviews you see on the site (from some VERY serious people) are what you can trust most. Their recommendation means a lot to us; we know it came out well, objectively. But to satisfy these people was our real goal.
Th recording process of the Beatles is largely shrouded in mystery still. Once the book is out, you will know a LOT more than ever before about their world.
Think about it - how much do you REALLY know yet about their sessions? Desk settings, what chambers got used and when. What where their chambers like inside? Mic pre's, mics, overdubbing tricks, editing procedures, headphone use. What options they had for EQ, for compression. Who worked on their sessions and what did they do. What were the OTHER studios beside Abbey Road like inside?

Hang and flog me now but believe it or not (Gulp!), I've never owned a Beatles CD and was a bigger Wings fan as a kid than the Beatles. Regardless, I am really looking forward to reading the book during my next vacation in late August. I should probably buy all of the Beatles CD's first (and put them on my iPod, of course) before I read the book so that I can familiarize myself with everything and have reference points and perspective. Do you and J.J. have any recommendations, since it seems that there are a million variations out there?
Brian, I definitely have a great respect for all the work that has gone into this project, which I'm sure has been a massive undertaking. Good luck and I'll definitely pass it on to any interested parties.

Well, I ordered every original Beatles CD last night and I'm looking forward to listening to all of the songs, then reading Brian's book. I had a few roomates in college that had every Beatles album, but I've never really analyzed what made them so great sonically. This is gonna be fun!

Way cool, guys! I'll order myself a copy of that (being a confirmed Beatle fan and all).

If nothing else, I'm glad you bought the CDs! Do you know their music otherwise? There's a LOT of great music hidden below just the hits...
Be sure to grab "Past Masters" 1 and 2 too - they put the singles on there for CD.

Hey Brian -
Aren't I lame? I did buy all the UK versions of the albums, including the Hey Jude record (I never realized that song never appeared on any of the actual album releases. It's one of my all-time favorites). I am familiar with most of the Beatles catalog, but(duh), I'm just blown away with the arrangements and overdubs, especially the later albums. It's like hearing songs that I've heard my whole life for the first time!
I'm totally stoked about the book and thanks again for your time and research!

This is the first I've heard of this book. Looks like a good companion to Lewisohn, where his book covers "what" and "when", this one seems to cover "how". Was Lewisohn a source for this? How was the book researched? Did Geoff Emerick or George Martin contribute?

Coolacious!
Paricularly after the fairly disappointing vagueness of Geoff Emerick's recent book.

We are in the process of doing some interviews now; both for online or magazine. As they are "pre-book" - they will mainly cover the research methods and problems. It was not easy as you might think.
The book itself will answer (hopefully) your main questions about the process of recording then!

This book is anything but vague, that's for sure.
