Hello there. This is what i wanna do
I wanna say play my music off windows media player but have a mic plugged into my computer which can allow me to Sing into the mic onto the song that is playing on windows media player. then for me to be able to save the song onto my computer.

I dont really have a clue about all this tech stuff! And would like to know if thats possible and if so what do i need to do so! thanks

Windows media player doesn't record, it just plays back.
There is a (I think) free recording program called Audacity, you might want to download that. It will do what you are talking about.

For a microphone to plug into your computer, check out this USB mic - http://tinyurl.com/s8y7q. You won't have to worry about impedances and so on. Also, if you do get Audacity or the free version of Protools, you'll have to import the song you want to sing on top of and then record another track along with it.
