Which model RCAs? All I can tell you about the Shure is that according to their literature, it has "pronounced proximity effect", which would be quite the opposite of of an RCA 44BX.
Ribbon mics are typically dark and mellow sounding. Great for horns or anything that has a bright sound that you want to mitigate.
They are also fragile, though. I haven't bought an old ribbon mic that hasn't needed to be re-ribboned. They can also be damaged by wind or excessive sound pressure. (I recommend AEA for any ribbon maintenance.) However, if you can get the Shure for cheap, it might be worth having in your mic locker as another flavor you can reach for. I really doubt that it will do the same thing as some of the larger RCAs though, like the 44 or the 77.

Agreed, they all need to be at least checked bgy a professional. Don't forget Clarence Kane at Enak... original work by an original master.
