This question regard J.J.

I did buy the CAd mic 411 for the toms, and i know that you like it,and cose i trust you, and love the sound of your drums, i need
some cue about this mic, i usaly use a SENN 604, for the toms, but so far i still love the 604 better than the 411, but
i must do something wrong with it, i try different placement, ( my tom are DW 12X9 with REMO coated) , the tom sound good, it's just that i can't get the tone,
and i do trust you,if you can use it, i hope i will be abble to use it...

Can you give me a few pointer please......
By the way my style is more pop a la JR, abe jr, fresse, you got the point,,heheheheh

thank's in advance

Bigbone

Bigbone, I'm sorry to hear that. Any chance you can post a couple of samples showing the difference? It's hard to comment without hearing what is going on.

Without hearing it, I would have to say it was the drum that wasn't giving you what you wanted. The 604 is a great mic, you should have been able to get a great sound with it. I have not had a good experience with the Cad mic. I much prefer the 604 or a 421.

Jay, it's interesting you say that about the 411. I recall it being similar in the bottom and low mids to a 421, as far as using it on a tom goes, but it had a slightly more open top end. It's that woolliness on the top end that I always find so objectionable about the 421. It gives you the note all right, but none of the air. I thought the 411 did a nice job of both.

The 411 just accentuates the mids that I tend to want to get rid of. They might be good on the smaller toms that seem popular now, but on the kits that I end up recording all the time (12x12 being the 'small' tom) it just doesn't work. BTW I tend to tune drums down, which also effects my experience with the mics.

like i said , the toms (12x 9 DW) sound great..........
anyway no big deal, if i can't use it, i won't.....

I will try to post some sample this week. i just need to make sure that it 's ok with the artist and the record company,,,those can be pretty picky hehehehehehehe

Well, considering the 57 is the same as the 58, I would probably use the 57, so that you don't dent the grill. However, considering I actually like some low end in my toms, I only use a 57 as one of my three snare mics, or to secure any loose nails around the studio.
