The old Tinnitus had been laying pretty low this last year or so. But, it has come back strong in the last few weeks. A couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, I caught one of those flu strains not covered in the shot I got. It really screwed around with the ear canals. The first time ever that I experienced the spinning room syndrome. And, I lost my breakfast from it.
Since December started, I have had these recurring headaches, and some darned loud ringing ears. It is really messing up my sleep patterns, and generally bumming me out.
Anyone else been going through this? Suggestions welcome...

Be very very careful about how you treat these seasonal afflictions. Many medicines and even simple asprin are ototoxic, meaning that they can cause damage to the nerves in the ear. Read the following page for more information:
http://www.lhh.org/otology/ototoxic.htm
Dizzyness is generally caused by uneven pressure due to congestion.
I have found that very large doses of vitamin C (several thousand milligrams) can open up the sinuses and ears.

That is some list! I didn't see anything in particular on there for me. But, I have been on the caffeine a little more these last few months. Always good to cut back on that old bad habit. At least, I don't smoke, drink or take IB.
I definitely need to work on the ear canals. They do feel tight or inflamed, still. With the lack of snow up here, we still have some plants that are probably lending to some allergy issues.
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll be calling the doc, tomorrow.

If you're having real issues with your ears, and you ARE, then see a doctor. Preferably a good ENT at this point.
Anecdotal advice from the internet is the last thing you need.

Yep... I'm in the HMO loop. Always slow. I got in to see the GP on Thursday. I have to do a hearing test before I can be referred to an ENT. I am going to fail the test, in my current state. The GP wrote up a perscription that is supposed to open the ear to open the ears. It seems to be working. The ear drums are crackling, now. But, no drainage, yet. And, the ringing is still loud.
It is amazing to me that so many iPod users are going to go through this from ignorance of what they are doing to their ears. I have been trying to protect my ears all these years. And, I am going through this.
It may be late January, but I'll keep you posted.

EVERYONE experiences some tinnitus at times... it's not necessarily a sign of big trouble... and definitely not an automatic sign of noise induced hearing loss.
You may not have "done" anything at all to yourself. You may just have an ear infection.

Thanks, d... I'll follow up on the vinegar thing. I saw an old detective show on Discovery channel the other day that showed undiluted (industrial strength) peroxide dissolving flesh off of a bone. Even though it was some 30 times stronger than what we would buy, it made me rethink putting stuff in my ear!
I am still experiencing loud tinnitus. It is messing up my sleep patterns. To get any further with the doctors, I need to work the *Hardly Manageable Organization* (HMO) thing. The doctor has me on prescription strength Sudafed, which isn't helping. But, I have to finish them off before the GP can send me off to a specialist.
The flu strain going around up here in Big Bear seems to be giving everyone who gets it upper repository issues. This didn't start for me until I got hit by it. It’s always the strains not in the shots that get around.
I am finding some temporary relief with some old JVC 900MHz wireless headphones that have to be tuned in (not crystal locked). They generate a notable noise floor. The hissing helps mask most of the various tones I am hearing. I am always adjusting volume on them, though. I don't want them very loud. But, the tinnitus is sometimes louder than other times.
Thanks for all the supporting feedback! I hope someone else out there is finding this helpful.
