JJ,

I read your article in EQ where you said you really like these mics. I've had a pair for a long time and have a difficult time finding an application where I don't have other mics that work better.

In what applications do you feel they excel? I broke them out again tonight and recorded an ac guitar in ORTF with them but retracked with a modded 67 and a sdc room mic which trounced all over them. I think the mids are real solid on them but there seems to be a little presence peak which I have a hard time getting used to. The lo end was fine tonight

Do you know what are they worth these days? I rarely see them for sale so it's difficult to gauge what they are worth in case I decide to sell them. I'd rather keep them because as soon as they sell, I'll know I'll need them....

thanks in advance, Chuck

Well, I would hope that a U67 would sound better! They cost ten times as much!

I don't think that CR3As are the best mic at every application. I just find that they are very good at every application. The point of the article being that they are a great alternative to a U87. I find the CR3A more musical than a U87, actually. Before I changed my techniques on each, they would always get picked for piano and toms. They are quite a great tom mic, actually. You should really try them in those two applications before you sell them. If you do choose to sell them, I see them going for about $350-400 on eBay these days.

Thanks for the reply. I do really like them... I'll give them a shot on a few other things... I only seem to pull them out when I'm looking for something different, maybe I should change my methodology...
