Before Brian was a Moog Cookbook rockstar and all around guru of everything synthetic and organic...

... he taught my Recording Lab class at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

You folks are lucky to get access to his mighty brain.

Hello Brian, from your old pal and fellow MusicPlayer forum mod . \:\)

Always.

I actually caught up with Brian about 5 years ago, when he and Roger Manning did a photo shoot for the Andromeda keyboard while I was the head of advertising for Alesis.

It's a small, small world.

Roger is genius, and one of my favorite people to work with. I will forever be endebted to him for giving me a copy of the Steve Vai groupie video!

Synthetic and organic. That IS perceptive (I hope) because so many people think I'm all about synths or that I'm "all analog", which is crazy.

Let's see what we can come up with here - I'm interested in trying to bend people's brains; to make them think and respond in their work methods.

Back in the day (i.e. about 15 years ago), Brian and I would record at the school's studio. It had a Soundcraft 6000 console, a Sony JH-24 2" machine with 24 tracks of Dolby SR, a not-half-bad sounding Hammond B3, and a pretty decent mic closet. Really not a bad place to develop one's chops in the pre-DAW days.

I recall Brian doing a session with The Muffs there, and Kim Shattuck was running around screaming that she only sang well while on her period. There's an obstacle most engineers don't have to deal with. \:\)

You know something I'd never want to hear?

"I only f*** well on my period."

(Oops. Is a moderator allowed to say that?)

Link is fixed above. It's an interesting service many people are going to...

Roger writes music that most people in pop are not ABLE to - he has wonderful traditional skills in arranging too.

What's funny is recording had a article on singing and tracking vocals and mentioned that a woman should avoid tracking vocals during that time of the month.
Maybe Kim was going for a certain effect? \:D
