I can't wait to see what goes on in here...
It looks a little odd to see a forum with the same name as its category. Will this be directed specifically to content in the issues?
Oh... My manners! Hello, J.J. Blair!

Hey, boys and girls. This is all rather sudden, so I'm still sort of working on the theme for this place. I'd like this to be a forum to discuss recording techniques, gear, aspects of production and engineering, etc. Maybe even share some good war stories or music related jokes. I know, that's a shocker, isn't it?
I'd also like this to be a place for people who have gotten introduced to recording through the DAW to take advantage of the experience that some of us have in real recording studio situations. Believe it or not, there was a day when you couldn't fix a bad performance or a bad recording with a plug-in. I notice that a lot of people who are would be engineers not knowing the first thing about basic concepts like phasing, or proper mic placement, how a compressor works, etc. Hopefully you take the opportunity to pick my brain, or any audio vets in here.
I'm going to request that people refrain from conjecture. I want to hear about your personal experience with a piece of equipment or a technique, unless you are describing the technique somebody used on a recording as a point of reference. If we make this as educational as possible, the heavy hitters will pop in and impart their wisdom on us. If the threads are topics like, "How do I get my Mackie to sound more like a tube console?" or "How do I make my mixes sound more zen?", it ain't gonna happen. I might even exercise some moderator discretion if a topic is just downright silly.
This is your guys' forum. Have fun. Play nice with the other kids in the sand box. And as always, remember my personal motto: "Friend don't let friends act like rockstars."

Welcome, J.J.
I think this forum has a lot of potential going for it. The direct tie-in with EQ Mag will undoubtedly bring thousands of EQ readers here. I can't wait to see what's in store for us!

Bunny Knutson! Or should I say Bunny Lewboski? Well, I'm already happy to see fans of my favorite movie ever.
BTW, just a quick announcement. It looks like my friend Brian Kehew will be co-moderating with me, if everything goes according to the plan. Brian is one half of the world famous Moog Cookbook, and is the co-author of the to be released in the not so distant future Recording the Beatles ( http://www.recordingthebeatles.com ), which is the most exhaustive and extensive study of Beatles recording techniques every done. He's also an excellent producer / engineer and an absolute authority on Mellotrons, Chamberlains, synths and all sorts of other cool gear. Brian also has the greatest stories. So, hopefully we will be welcoming Brian in the next day or so once he gets all registered.

J.J.,
Look at you! You are the Moderator. Work hard, and maybe someday you'll be the Governator.
But seriously, congratulations on the new place.
Cheers,
Carter

Yeah...OK...BUT... ...what if the question asked: "How can I through Zen, achieve a tube-like consciousness with my Mackie?
Wouldn't that warrant a few posts of the "from-personal-experience" nature?

Looking forward to the new forum here. I think this is a very positive development. Coming on the heals of what I thought was one of the best EQ issues in a while, I'm glad to see the new digs, J.J.
Cheers, Mark

Yup, I own the DVD. Funny thing is, that's my real last name, and I'd had the nickname "Bunny" for at least five years before The Big Lebowski came out. So, I was pretty surprised when I first saw the film. Heheh.
Hey, that's great news about your new co-moderator! Moog Cookbook is way cool, in my book. I've got one of their CDs - great stuff. Of course, I love synthesizers, so I'm biased.

Thanks for that Bunny - The Cookbook is one part of what I do - which I largely VERY organic and not electronic. Even those records were played "by hand", not sequenced, which is a rarity. Maybe that will become one of out topics?

Great that you're here, Brian. I'm a fan of the Moog Cookbook stuff (when did you say the next album's coming out? ). Hope you'll be participating in the Keyboard Magazine forum too.
